    GMD-1 Kitbash (Unfinished)

The GMD1 wheelbase was longer than an SW7, but noticeably shorter than a GP9. What to do? I thought I'd build a shell, and then lengthen an Athearn SW7 frame. The SW7 shell, however, was incorrect, so I picked up two MP1200 (???) Athearn shells at my LHS. The Cab - I spliced the two cabs...

    GMD-1 Kitbash (Unfinished)

After TrainClown's CN yard pictures, the comments about the GMD-1 he photographed reminded me of a kitbash I'd tried over a decade ago; one that was eventually shelved, and practically forgotten. There were a couple of releases of this unique ugly-duckling locomotive made. All wre brass...

    Can it be something else!

...Still a little long for a boxcab, but I'll bet it would make a Jim-Dandy Gas-Electric. Here's my idea. Find an MDC HO Overton combine. ( I have one, and I'll even measure the truck wheelbase, if you'd like.) There was an article in RMC eons ago about doing this, using an N scale...

    Stopped by CN yard

Mmmmmm...Trains. Hey, TC, I'm no diesel expert either, but number 5533 is an SD 60. There were 3 locomotive types that had the "Draper Taper" carbodies...SD 50s, SD 60s, and GE Dash 8s. Have a look on the angled part of the roof, between the top of the cab, and the grilles at the rear. The...

High wheel mower w/ 24' cut...

I Guess I'm Not Really Canadian... ...As I don't have one in the garage! What's wrong with me? I'll bet that someone can help out, however. I'll also keep my eyes peeled for a good info source.

    Mainline Coaling Tower

Just What I'm Needing! Robin, I'll openly grovel for any plans you might have for this structure. I'm looking for exactly (pretty sure...) what you're building here, to use as a smallish engine coaling facility on my line. Everything I seem to find is designed for huse locos, or huge numbers...

well guys, i think this is about it........

Don't Give Up! Hang in there, Steve! I also have an almost impossible time envisioning a workable trackplan on paper, and I wound up doing almost exactly what everyone here suggests. After a number of frustrating efforts, I simply tacked down some track, and ran trains. While trains were...

    My First Train!

First Trains... Ah, the gool old Maerklin M-Track - I remember it well. My first train pictures are from my Dad's old 8mm film camera. I was barely able to sit on my own in the middle of a circle of Tri-Ang track, with a short train going around me. I'd crane my neck to watch as it went...

The Third gauge Layout Party!!! :) :) :)

Time To FOCUS!! As I've whined about before, I have precious little modelling time. I find that it is usually squandered by trying to have 400 projects or so going all at the same time...resulting in nothing actually getting finished. So...at the moment, what's most important? Well, I'd...

    around the room track ideas!

Hmmmm... Okay, Steve - I'm guessing here that you're working in HO. Here are a few questions I have for you. ---> 1.) What era do you plan to run? (Do you have a specific time frame in mind?) ---> 2.) Do you have a particular area in mind that you'd like to model? (Mountains? Prairies...
