    Finally my GP30's are here

Those look great. I've always liked that distinctive GP30 look. (Just wish Atlas would make a high hood Southern GP30. Oh well.)

Kato SD40-2 Nscale Knuckle Coupler Question

Just received a mid-production BNSF SD40-2 and have been running it around the layout just long enough to realize the knuckle couplers on this unit seem different than other Kato diesels I own. The couplers stay attached well, but getting them to couple up to another diesel or car is the...

flex track and test layout question

If I'm not mistaken - and understand your question correctly - each piece of flex track normally has an extremely small hole about every five or so ties that you could use to pin the track down. I used Atlas flex sections for my curves on one inch foam insulation board and straight pins to pin...

    Atlas Nscale GP-38 Electrical glitch?

Russ..you're absolutely right about the rail joiners and I will solder the rails together and add drop wires. That's on the things to do list. For now, mostly to check for alignment problems and rough in the scenery, I have the track connected with rail joiners. This little engine has brought...

    Atlas Nscale GP-38 Electrical glitch?

The lighting is directional (but to be sure, I'll recheck the Atlas website regarding this engine). Funny thing is, the lights flicker or remain illuminated for a very short durations at predictable places around the layout which leads me to believe this all stems from a track issue. But...

    Atlas Nscale GP-38 Electrical glitch?

Cleaning the contacts will be first on my list. There are "pickup" strips that seem to be contacting and remaining in contact while the engine moves. For the power to momentarily take the path to the rear number board lights - without changing the direction of the motor from forward to reverse...

    Atlas Nscale GP-38 Electrical glitch?

Thank you very much. I might fly airplanes, but the idea of tearing into an engine gives me the shivers. Still, sounds like that's what I'll have to do. I haven't seen or read about this kind of electrical pickup problem (both front and rear number boards getting power for an instant) so I'm...

    N Scale Dummy Engines

I can't add more than what's already been listed except you can get quite a few LifeLike and Bachmann engines for not too much money and strip the gearing out of them for dummy engines. I would add a word of caution though...I stripped everything out of a Bachmann GP50 that ran horribly and it...

Do You Model the Alaska RR?

They have some great looking diesels and passenger cars - you're right - there's some great modeling possibilities there! I wouldn't mind having one of the larger diesels running around my layout...just because.

The layout's right around 16 feet long but only 14 inches wide between the 22 inch dog-bone ends. Not ideal layout dimensions...but that's all I have to work with. The trick will be to add scenery that makes it look right.

    We've lost another friend.

My sincere condolences to the family as well. My thoughts and prayers to his wife and family.

A bit of progress... Sorry I haven't posted any pictures lately...as you can see...I've been busy. This new shelf layout is far from done (still in the track-testing phase) but here's the idea I'm building on so far. Two towns located at each end of the dogbone curves, yard in the middle...

    Atlas Nscale GP-38 Electrical glitch?

Ya know - both your ideas are probably worth trying. Thank you very much! It's funny I didn't notice the "double lighting" until now. I don't think it's the track (electrically, I don't see how it could be) so it must be the motor/lighting wiring. Thanks again.

    Tear Down The Wall.......

WOW! You've got some room to grow now! There's a whole 'nother state just waiting for tracks to be laid down.

    Atlas Nscale GP-38 Electrical glitch?

Got a quick question guys that maybe someone with greater electrical understanding can answer. I have an Atlas GP38 unit that I was running on the new and yet unfinished layout and noticed that occasionally both the front and rear number boards were lit at the same time while the engine was...

    Todays Progress on the ACTRR

HAHA Tires on the roofs of the trailer - great stuff! Nice detailing! The blades on the dozer and grader look real. (Considering how difficult it is to mine unobtainium you've got to sympathize with the LPP's a bit...but they knew the risks when they took the job.)

plastics hauled in the covered hoppers

The only info I can offer is from a "How Things Are Made" show - or some title like that - and it showed a hopper delivering what looked like 1" white pellets that would be heated and turned into the final product. But like Pitchwife's disclaimer (which is pretty funny IMHO) I've never seen...
