    Forgot to add this link...

I meant to add this link to my original post saying Goodbye for a while...this is only one short photo-montage from several that are very well done. http://www.gcsdistributing.com/?pv=tr&tf=TDP&DT=HSD Please check out the other videos, as all are great. Several are very noteworthy..."We...

    So Long...for a while.

My sincere thanks to you guys for thinking of me...it means a lot. I'll be flying combat missions in and around Afghanistan with the USAF. I'm currently serving with the North Carolina Air National Guard as a Major and Aircraft Commander. I'll be part of a good crew, using some really hi-tech...

    So Long...for a while.

Thought I'd pass this on... I haven't been able to post as many responses or pictures as before because I've been preparing to deploy to Afghanistan very soon. Many of you know I fly the C-130 and will fly combat missions within Afghanistan. I'll be leaving within a week and won't be back...

If you're going to choose between these 2 for asphalt roads...

I like sandpaper too...it weathers with chaulks very nicely, you can create tire marks, add stains, and it can be lightly painted with lines and local road markings. If you choose to glue it down, be very careful to use just a small amount and cover the entire area as evenly as possible...

    A Cold Storage Distribution Centre

That looks really nice! That freight dock was well done and I like the brick foundation.

    N scale sd70ace units!!!! Yay

No worries Deano - I'm always happy to answer! As for the Kato-debate I sort of started...I too think they have the best motors in Nscale. (If I was nit-pickin' I'd say their newest knuckle coupler is a bit tricky to operate)...but their motors are great. And considering I have 16 of their...

    N scale sd70ace units!!!! Yay

Not to disparage Kato...but in the few years since I've been back modeling Nscale, I thought Kato was the cream of the crop. They certainly had the smoothest drives and some nice detailing. Then the LifeLike Proto-N came out with smooth drives/motors, crisp lettering an detailing. Then Atlas...

    A Sad Day Here

With all the work you did on that layout - I have no doubt you'll one day start another layout when time and money permits. You did a great job! So look at this time as a brief period of "down time" not an end. It took me about 20 years to restart in this hobby...so don't worry...when you're...

    N scale sd70ace units!!!! Yay

If they make the Heritage Units - I'll be buying a few and probably so will many other people. IMHO, Kato needs to move the bar up a bit in terms of detailing on their diesels. Other manufacturers are making highly detailed (granted, sometimes the detailing isn't prototypical) designs for less...

    Kato Pacer Maxi-Stacks

Thank you for the intel! They sure look great - but I have some serious space limits so maybe I'll have to pass on adding them to the fleet right now.

    A little Gauge help please!

Once again I seem to be having problems with viewing and posting to The Gauge. When I bring up the website, there's no background colors, no smilies, few pictures, and the font changes within an open thread to what looks like Times New Roman. Additionally, I can't seem to post a reply to any...

    Kato Pacer Maxi-Stacks

I'm thinking of getting two of these sets from Kato but I'm wondering if they can handle a 9.75" radius. Anyone out there running these on tight radius curves without derailments due to the tight curves? Thanks everyone...

    Canada's beauty

Had to mention this since I know there's more than a few from Canada that read/post here... Yesterday, I flew into Smithers, BC and wow what a beautiful place. The mountains were great to see (still snow capped) and the rivers looked cold and filled with steelhead. I heard the whistle from a...

    Cleaning spray painted track

Thanks for the great tips! I plan on trying a few and see how things go. There's still a fair amount of track to weather, and now that I bought an air brush, I won't be using a spray can which gave me all my problems in the first place. I was suprised how much paint adheared to everything...

    Layout 101

(This is a very constructive and informative thread so far...I've appreciated reading all the posts.) I was just thinking about this hump yard idea and thought of a different angle (maybe)...would it be possible to add scenery elements to slow the speed of the car at the bottom of the hill? I...

    Cleaning spray painted track

That sounds like an interesting idea that I think I'll try too! The track cleaning eraser worked well, but I was trying to find something that left less mess. Maybe it's just my eraser or maybe they all work this way, but I'm always left with enough residue after using the eraser that the...
