Agree, but they work well for the price and fit in smaller spaces.

A little help please. N scale

I think Will has it covered. Are you setting this up for DC or DCC control? I like the layout and the 1x3 framing idea. That should provide you with plenty of support. Welcome to the Gauge.

    turntable

Atlas makes an inexpensive smaller turn table that mounts on the table. You do not have to cut a hole in your tabletop for it.

    My new favorite

:D I received my Pioneer Zephyr right after the first of the year and waited a couple of weeks to get the decoder for it. The assembly of the Zephyr and installation of the decoder took about 30 minutes. Another 15 minutes for programming and it runs great. It is so quiet that I have to look...

    Digitrax Zephyr Help

Maybe someone that is using a Zephyr system can field question 1. I would think that the PS needs to be plugged in to operate but I don't know that for a fact. As for running your analog engine on DCC, you will probably notice some change in performance but that is not always the case. I...

    Block Wiring DCC?

Good find Woodie. I still prefer one power source option though. It is a lot less to worry about. :)

    Seattle Switch Yard

My son just finished his training with the BNSF and is now working at one of the switching locations in Seattle. I haven't had a chance to talk to him since he received his assignment but he indicated that I could get "up close and personal" with some of the motive power on our next trip out to...

Do your guests put their drinks on the layout?

Neat idea :thumb: In a pinch they might also hold a hand held controller if one were to exchange it for the drink. :)

    Block Wiring DCC?

Wouldn't it be possible to use a dpst center off switch to isolate the power on that industrial section at the point where it comes off the main. That way the only power to an engine in that block is either DC or DCC and never both? - unless the engine strays back out to the main

Andrew, Well said. I think you said it better than I did. and I agree - not a good idea.

    Block Wiring DCC?

Woodie, I agree, however, the dual dc-dcc concept working at the same time is just an accident waiting to happen. I don't think that the concept is meant to be operated simultaneously. In the instance in this thread, it sounds like he wants to run a DCC loco and a DC loco at the same...

    Block Wiring DCC?

Most systems allow for loco address "00" to run as a non-dcc engine on the dcc layout using the dcc controller. You should check your documentation to see if this works on your system. I do this with several older n-scale locos that I cannot modify and I do not want to have someone else modify...

Steve, Take a look here. As you drill down in the installations tab (examples>nscale>diesel)- you will find the SW1200. Looks like Bruce has found a way to preserve the light. :) :)

Why The Big Cost Difference in Decoders

   Steve - my bad!!! I didn't catch the error. I have NOT done the conversion yet. That is why I asked for the tutorial. I meant to say "I have to put one in my SW1200."
