    City of New Orleans

:curse: :curse: While this is a neat link - it installed itself on my computer :curse: and I could not get it to turn off when I left the site. Johnny kept on "crusin' down to New Orleans". I had to reboot and run an adware removal to get rid of it. Any on else experience a similar occurance.?

    New Model Railroader !!

I bought our first son a little HO train set for his first Christmas. I still have it 40 years later. He is not really a modeler-nor handy with things mechanical, so it is just as well. The problem is that I model n-scale.:) :)

Is anyone concidering the new 5dcc system?

announce1 Think of the potential with this thing. The whole layout could be automated. Everything could move when activated by the digital control unit - including the autos, trucks, animals and the LPB's. I can see the advertizement now "Operate your entire layout, not just a control...

    People's Location

Bob, I am also an Iowegan transplant to Virginia. I have lived in Fort Dodge, overlooking the old M & St. L wye near the Des Moines River bridge. We moved to Ottumwa in 1959 and I worked my summers while in college at a small milk plant near the old CB&Q tracks along the river. I...

Is anyone concidering the new 5dcc system?

So easy, a child could do it:D :D :D. In addition it uses less electricity than a LED in a locomotive. This means that we can take a small layout on a camping trip:thumb: sign1

what type of layout do you prefer

My layout is a 17 1/2' by 10 1/2' around the room with a 10' peninsula in the middle (Enclosed E). I use a duck under but that was a mistake. I am in N-scale and I made the tables 3' wide at the maximum width for the yard and the peninsula. The 2 long lengths on opposite walls are 2 1/2' and...

    Canvas over loads

neat idea, Harold. I am going to try that or a load on a n-scale flat car.

    Bachmann's Centennial N-scale Set

I agree with Glenn - to a point. Most of the Spectrum line is very good. I have 2 of the F7 a&b sets that are noisy, unlike the very quiet 280's (I have 4 of them. But I also have an Atlas GP9 that is noisy while 2 others are quiet. Quality wise, IMHO, the Kato and Atlas are a bit ahead of...

    Interesting diesel lineup in Seattle

my son, who now works there in the Seattle yards, tells me that BNSF has leased power from almost everywhere. So you are likely to see just about anything lashed together whereever BNSF rolls:wave:

Finally finished my Standard Oil Company

:thumb: :thumb: Mike. That is a nice piece of work. And I really like the way that you incorporated it into your layout. Good job. You do need to modify your sig now - that is NOT CRAPPY WORK!!!

    First kit build

:thumb: :thumb: Nice job on both construction and the weathering. Waiting for the base & install on your layout. :)

    Sound for N guage

Glenn, A year or so ago there was an article in Model Railroader about an install of a SoundTrax decoder and speaker in the tender of the 2-8-0. I don't know where that issue is and I am leaving in about 10 hours for Disney World but maybe someone else can tell you. You might be able to...

    Bachman Spectrum Steam?

I have 3 of the Bachmann Spectrum 280s and 2 of the Kato Mikes. All very good performers, very quiet, good pulling power, and look good as well. I obtained one with a decoder from Tony's and am waiting to put DCC in the rest. I don't know about the others that you mentioned but I think that...

    N scale brewery

Mark, Walthers online catalog shows this kit. It does have interior detail in the "vat" room on the right. I scratchbuilt a backdrop model out of card stock that resembles it - only half as deep though

    Anyone recognise this

Mark, I have one of those stations. It is a bit oversized for nscale. It measures 32' base to peak. The inside door frame measurement is 9'x4', windows are 6'x4', and the freight door is 9'x10'. LPBs look like dwarfs when put on the platform. It will make other "in scale" models look...

    A very general/specific question

I am on layout 3. I just put track down in a somewhat organized manner the first time and then went to a MR plan for #2. The one that I am in now in my own design implementing a few elements from a couple of nice plans that I have found in MR and others. I have been "buying" locomotives and...

    other hobbies?

I used to be a HAM many years ago (in the WN and KN era. K3CWB AND K0VEZ). I didn't continue with the hobby after college but wish that I had. I still enjoy listening to CW chat. I am into gardening, RVing and backpacking when I have time.

    Control boxes/ panels

Nice work stump. Tom, to make things realistic, I use the Caboose manual throws. This keeps the operator in the train's progress and forces you to keep track of the positions of the points as you move around the layout. (throw the switch, run through it, return it to it's original...
