    Hint & Kink: Derailments

It goes without saying, Andy. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies. We either nail the track too tight and pinch the gauge - or we leave a nailhead too far exposed, both of causing us grief with "unexplained" dereailments. I guess that is what keeps us young. Having to keep using our brain...

sectional track popped out of rail joiner how to fix?

What you might want to put in your track laying procedure in the future is that after you lay each track section that is joined by a rail joiner, run your finger over the joint. That way you will identify and be able to correct the joint before you have applied the glue. It takes a little time...

    Do i really need DCC

For your existing situation - 1 loco, single operator, simple 4x8 layout, whatever scale, DCC is probably not for you. BUT, if you intend for this layout to be your beginning of a larger rail empire, then you might want to consider DCC now rather than a more expensive entry later. It is what...

    need some help with login

thanks guys. I think it is working. :):) I found that I had not unchecked a "clear cookies" box in one of the personal data boxes in my FireFox options. Seems to be working now. I am having some issues with ComCast now so will test each time I drop off and come back on.

any advice on nailing track to cork roadbed on 5/8 plywood

Yummy is right about noise. Nailing track to plywood, even if it is sitting on cork roadbed, will cause noise to be transmitted throught the nails to the plywood. I have my cork on top of homasote and even there I can notice a difference in noise (slight - but there) where I have used track...

    Advice on Good window materials...

I have a supply of the clear plastic covering material that comes on many products that you buy in the "bulk" stores such as COSTCO, or Sam's Club, BJ's, etc. I keep the flat portions and recycle the waste.

    Matthro..Some regrets

I just spent a while looking back at his work and especially this blast furnace build in the Archives. That construction itself was great, but the adjoining coke plant made it even more impressive. Jimmy, were you able to get photos of his entire empire before you dismantled it. If so, would...

    Matthro..Some regrets

Just to see some of the things that he did with a Corn Flakes box is incredible. The blast furnace has got to be a monumental accomplishment. We all followed that construction, waiting for the next piece to drop into place. Jimmy, I am glad that you were able to get that shot. It would be...

Which Direction Do You Run Your Trains?

I have 3 loops. Lower level loop runs both ways depending on mood at the time. On my double track main, the outer loop (as seen at the yard complex) goes counter clockwise, the inner loop runs clockwise.
