How to model a Conrail C40-8W

Good review Herc, thats more or less what I need to know. Haven't found much in the way of deals around here, sort of missed the boat on this one, there was one unit at the LHS back in December they were selling for $25 in Conrail, but I took a pass. The internet based shops that have them are...

How to model a Conrail C40-8W

thanks HD, how does the bachman run? I've heard such horror stories about it and my track tends to test unreliables hard. thats why I wondered about modifying an Atlas 39-8 or somthing of that nature. but if the bachman is solid, Ill take a shot, your thoughts?

How to model a Conrail C40-8W

I think Bachman makes a C40-8W, not sure. Can anyone suggest how to model a Conrail C40-8W on an Atlas or Kato frame? Much appreciated.

    A Question for Serious Modlers

have to add (agree) my factory DCC equipped Atlas diesels are also mighty picky about when THEY wanna go and when THEY don't, and even with proto speed they too are mysteriously slow. hmm, thought it was just me.

    A Question for Serious Modlers

Yeah, I have zero experience with Kato steam. As for the new Sd40-2 mid productions, good news, the decoder is apparently coming, have a look at the digitrax web site, there is a decoder but it is apparently not shipping yet, can't wait for it to get here! As for converting Atlas, I have been...

    A Question for Serious Modlers

I mostly second what everyone else is saying but add this: In my humble opinion Kato and Atlas diesels run best. Having said that for running and converting to DCC I think that Kato is well above an Atlas, here's why: Kato's are far easier to convert to DCC due to the set-up, I saw some at...

Need help with one area of layout

O.k. start with an explanation of the layout. In the upper right a hinged section that drops down to connect to the 1st 43 x 17 modular is noted by a dotted outline. There are two tracks ready to enter the modular section, already soldered to brass screws. The mainline is already drawn all...

Need help with one area of layout

I need some help with the trackplan for one area of my layout: I have 2 (connected) modular sections each 43" long x 17" wide that run across a set of closet doors to a hinged section by the door. I had thought of putting a Yuengling brewery and small engine yard on one side and an Alcoa plant...

    new backdrop section up

Another new back-drop and custom loco paint Thanks for the kind comments, my backdrop work continues to evolve. The photos here show a small section of my layout loosely representing Pottstown Pennsylvania. This time I printed actual photos from train photos that I cropped, pasted together and...

    TOFC/COFC Dilemna

Awesome job, that looks great, can't believe what it came from! Also on the $$ saving front, saw a great tip on creating those gigantic stacks of containers you see at intermodal facilities and ports: use a front of actual N scale containers, but behind it, cut the containers behind this for...

    new backdrop section up

here are some pictures of a new section of backdrop I just put in on my layout. It was drawn and watercolored by a family member with some talent based on a photo I had of Philadelphia behind the "high line." Work has slowed, but progress continues!

Can anyone help me out and let me know how DCC compatible the life like proto 2000 GP60 is, and how DCC compatible the upcoming SD38 is said to be? I can't seem to find it anywhere but I could use these prototypes. Thanks.

Need some suggestions on diesel weathering

weathering Its seemed to me that weathering pretty specific to era, engine type, and road name. I model almost all CP Rail northeast, which uses a lot of old Sd40-2 and SD60 power. I also model NS (they haul each others trains in the region) and they seem to take very good care of their...
