    Beginners Layout Question

This question isn't as easy to answer as you may think! I went through this about a year ago. I'd encourage you to read some of the older posts in the Trackplanning section. Also, do a Google search for "Mike's Small Trackplans". There are quite a few good ones to choose from and are...

    Gauge Layout party No. 4

All I got done to the module was painting the track/ties and some of the plaster work with a base coat. However, I did take it to our Ntrak club meeting and found that it all works smoothly as it should. This week I hope to get more painting done and ground cover on.

    Layout Questions from Beginner

Welcome to the Gauge Mark (another Pennsylvania-ite). I think it depends more on what you are going to model. The larger the loco, the longer the cars, the longer the train the more you will need to open things up. Those parameters wouldn't bother an SW1500 switcher but may play havoc with a...

    Gauge Layout party No. 4

No more plywood prairie. :D Sorry about the image size. I spent almost the entire day doing that in the hopes of getting it painted before my next Ntrak meeting Tuesday. Next: paint the base color, paint the track, begin ballasting.

    Is Model Railroader lagging?

Not to defend MR, but I've done some writing for magazines in the past. Don't do it anymore, because frankly it's too time consuming for the payment I usually received (if any). Magazines of this nature usually do not have the staff or expense accounts to send people out in the world on...

I'll be danged if I can find the chat room...where is the link to it?

    It's MONDAY, weekend modeling accomplishments!

I bought a structure kit for my Ntrak module and spent several hours staring at the space it will go in to set my final siding. I'm a perfectionist in so few things in life, yet am totally anal about this module...go figure. I need to run some trains soon or I'll go nuts!

    Gauge Layout party No. 4

Yeah, I'll sign up too. My layout is on 'hold' while I'm building a Ntrak module. I have the table done, the track laid, some of the wiring in place. Not photogenic, so no pics just yet. I have a meeting on the 5th so need to make some progress or the others will ban me from the club. :p I...

    Trains on TV

Interesting show, but I wouldn't call it "great". The locos were indeed unique and historically interesting. I found the show to be rather dumbed-down, repetitive and ultimately not satisfying. I missed a bit of the first half, but why did they never go to Boston and research the departure point...

    Building an N-Trak module

Thanks for the tips. We are using the 3 track version. I've ditched the bridge idea as it is a bit much for me to make benchwork that will dip/be raised where necessary. I've got a few ideas rolling around in my noggin so we'll see what comes out. I agree, a longer module would be great, but...

    Building an N-Trak module

Quite by accident, I stumbled on a few local guys trying to get an N-trak club going. I'd actually considered doing a module when I first returned to the hobby last year but there weren't any clubs in the area. Anyhow, they have elected to stick with a simple 3 track system, no mountain division...

    Misery Loves Company

The bad: pretty much the only LHS I have is a pain to order from...it takes weeks and weeks and weeks for him to order stuff, I guess because of minimum orders or paying off his bill or something, but it's a PITA. Right now I'm waiting for a part for my airbrush and will probably just order it...

    Horseshoe curve

Forgive me, for I are a lame train buff. Heck, here in the great central PA area I'm only a few hours drive from the Curve, Steamtown, EBT and any number of other things (I've successfully completed the RR Museum of PA in Strasburg, since it's only 30 minutes away). Just too much...

    Horseshoe curve

You know, I live here in PA and I haven't seen it yet. I think I need to work on that. :) I did, however, head to Maryland yesterday and checked out the WM's version, Helmstetter's Curve. Not my image...hope it fits:

The Third gauge Layout Party!!! :) :) :)

Paint/weather my track and lay it. Now, this may not seem like an ambitious project, since it's a small layout on a door, but I'm waiting for a pressure regulator for my airbrush from the LHS. Judging by how long it took him to get my Grandt Line doors, I suspect I'll be able to start painting...

What's it really like in the U.S.?

Gee, could you have asked a more open question? ;) Here's something I suggest...go on Ebay and buy a copy (even an older one) of "Places Rated". It rates various cities in the US and Canada on everything from cost of living to weather. This may be a good starting point for you to narrow...

    Greetings From the Belmar Valley!

Nice work...I certainly wouldn't be embarrassed to have that layout. Good weathering too. Hey, we can't all be John Allen. :)
