For enthusiasts who have no space

I haven't said much in posts but I've long admired Shamus's On30 modelling together with those others who scratch build just about everything. There's a charm about backwoods industries which use narrowgauge rails in their operations. Well, here's a treat to get the braincells of those of...

    Blacksmith & Tool Cars

Absolutely SUPERB!! What a terrific job you made of those Jim, the detail and style makes me think of a time in history when the world seemed a better place. Your skill with a paintbrush is top notch sir!!! If it weren't for a need to make dozens of trees I'd get stuck into logging themes...

    Another "Old" Photo

Chuckling Here You got me worried now Charlie, I can't tell the difference between a Roger's and a Porter!  But here's the old timers I have, all work except the O Gauge one which is a 40 yr old Rivarossi plastic kit which I screwed to a display base. (I didn't buy the...

    Finally...Some Scenery At Sumpter Run

Geeeee Charlie, I let go of The Gauge for four weeks and find you've got more done in that time than I've done in six months! Lovely photograph, and the setting and modelling is great! That 2-8-0 must be about due a boiler check after the work loads you've been assigning to it ... ;) ;)...

well guy sorry to say this

No man is an island Scooby. As Sumpter said "You have an extended family whom you never met...". It is folks like The Gauge members and your brother's boss who gives me faith for the future of the human race. You have courage and faith, may it never diminish. take some comfort from knowing...

    Transforming a shay

WOW! Shamus, As soon as i saw your original I thought it was a KTM Brass model like my HO one. It was the delicate finesse of the detail that made me think that. Mine is so dinky I'm sure it was intended to be HOn3 yet the drive shafts are 'in-line' with the truck gears. Without your...

    Switchin' The Mine

Looks really good charlie. My My My! that must be the most photographed loco on your roster :) . I'm not surprised though as it looks as good as it runs. I'm also admiring your ballasting skills. Errol

    Power for a Marklin train...

Shaygets, Jon is correct, if you do this however i'm not sure the output will be high enough when you press the 'reversing' button. That button outputs something like a 20 to 24 volt pulse (too fast to start the motor but) enough to throw the reversing solenoid inside the loco. When I had...

    A swiss house

It looks like the bed-and-breakfast place I stayed in Xaniel. Don't forget the 1,000 Geranium flowers in window boxes :D (there's your next three weeks work cut out for you) :D :D Errol

It makes it all worth while

Good photo Chris, There's something nice about catenery operated models... provides more for the eye to see and looks complicated and intriguing with operating pantographs and all. Did you make the pilot yourself? You sure picked on a RR type that sortof leaves you to your own endeavours as I...

    Painting those LPB's

This is a great thread! Alex, thanks for this thread. May are the times I've sat down full of confidence to paint Preiser figures with most turning out on the light side (as in sunny climes). I tried the 'black first' on several N scale figures the other night and found that several coats...

Manner of fixing buildings to bases.

Although I have several buildings on my N layout, none of them are secured ... ie, if I tilt the layout to do some wiring I have to remove them otherwise they fall around. Most of my buildings are lit and to facilitate bulb replacement I would have to remove the building as the bulbs are...

    A new(old) loco for the B&MC R.R.

Shaygetz, I always maintained an act of selfless kindness has it's own rewards and I can't think of anything that can express the club's thanks more than a gem like that 2-6-0 ..... congratulations. I'm sure you will cherish it. I didn't realise there was a 2-6-0 version on that RR which...

    Details, details, details...

Good heavens Mike, I had to look and look and look before I believed you the photos weren't of 1:1 scale!!! The detals are so very authentic and your weathering is absolutely top notch!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: I hope you have lots more photos to show us that I can drool over. Errol

    Capacitor Discharge unit

Xaniel, I posted a circuit diagram if a CDU which I use on my layout. It operates 4 switches simultaenously and can operate more. Mine is powered from an 18 volt DC supply but can also be AC without modification. A problem using ac through a pushbutton is that eventually, because of the high...

    Dang Bachmann Chinese #@%&^#$!!

Chuck, the trick is to run it on it's own loop of track with no switches! If you really love the style of those locos ans feel you must run it over switches, I suggest you get a AHM 4-4-0 as mine runs quiet and perfectly over Atlas switches (and the loco looks great). Errol
