    Teror On The Tracks

Sorry my post was not clear. I'm not trying to blame Republicans for irresponsible reporting. I'm blaming them for the existance of the problem. Blaming reporters is just "killing the messenger". Unsafe rail crossings and rail yards are just one small symptom of a much larger problem...

    Teror On The Tracks

Sorry guys, you can't blame this on the press. Ever since 9-11, The Republican Party, both in the administration and in Congress, has effectively stopped every effort to strengthen security requirements for the chemical industry. For example, Oklahoma Republican Senator James Inhofe, in...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Thanks for the link, I took a look. Unfortunately, the graphics are all messed up, they are alll at extremely low resolution (they look like thumbnails blown up to a larger size). However, it was still very clear that Robin was a master modeler, and completely understood the versatility of...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Hey guys! I'm one of the cardmodels.net refugees that have recently joined the Zealot forums. I'm trying to catch up on the vast number of interesting threads over here at The Gauge, and just found this one. Cardstock structures seem like such a perfect match for model railroading, this...

Nail hole making tool for scratch building

That sounds like a sensible policy. I agree that dulling/fading/lightening colors is just another technique, along with forced perspective, flats, low relief buildings, using a smaller scale for "distant" objects, etc. - all can be very effective if implemented well in the right situation...

Nail hole making tool for scratch building

Thanks for the replies! Ocalicreek, I think you may have overlooked something. A photon is a photon, for sure, but the number of them that reaches your eye is definitely affected by distance. Because of moisture, dust and other particles suspended in the air, some of the light reflecting...

    Plastic VS wood

Kevinkrey, are you sure you are not restricting your options by only considering wood or plastic? What about cardstock? Like any material, it has its advantages and disadvantages, but I find it a great fit for scale structure modeling. One of the advantages is that you can make...

Nail hole making tool for scratch building

Slightly off topic ... I'm not a model RRer (I'm a card modeler), but I love to read your threads because many of you produce such jaw-dropping miniatures. So, please forgive me for asking a "Model Railroading 101" question. :) There seems to be a core issue about how to make something...

S.M.S. Schleswig Holstein, GPM, 1:200, Full hull

Flu, thanks for taking the time to post so many pictures of your magnificent build. I'm still reeling from the tiny propeller and propeller shaft on the underside of the lifeboats. :-0 Inspiring and intimidating at the same time! ;-)

New paper model set coming up: Asian Temple

"Oriental temple." :) Actually, since I posted that question I realized your models are intended primarily for gamers, now I understand it's better they are not too culture/nation-specific. I took a look at some of the other sets you offer. Great concept, and very nicely done! :)

Orel #16 Russian pre-dreadnought Admiral Ushakov

At another forum, about Russian pre-dreadnoughts, there was a long thread about just what color those yellow funnels actually were. It turns out ... apparently no one really knows. The original paint specs were very vague, (basically "mix yellow ochre and black"), and there is no...

    Factory Wharehouse

Great! That's a good looking model, nice graphics. The design style looks like Scale Scenes, but I don't recognize it. Looking forward to following the build!

    Modelik 1/200 Czarist Battlehsip Petropavlovsk

I mentioned this in another pre-dreadnought thread, I am going to take the liberty to do so again in case any pre-dreadnought fans out there haven't heard about this. About a year ago an excellent pc game came out covering the Russo-Japanese War, "Distant Guns" by Storm Eagle Studios. The...
