Victorian battleships and steamships..can anyone help?

My favorite ship era! I suppose one obvious nominee would be the Great Eastern. You get funnels and sails (ten masts of 'em) ... AND sidewheels ... AND screws! Jackpot! :) Good luck with your project!

    Great shots, great layout!

    Morse Code vs. Text Messaging

That kid was America's fastest text messenger? Ha! I can text almost as fast as the morse coders! I competed with the video. When the morse coders finished, on my phone I had typed "I just saved a bunch of monez on my car in" - only seven characters less in the same time (w/one error)...

    My latest project

Good point, you can't go by purchase price alone. For downloadable card models you have to consider the costs of printing (lots of variables, maybe something like $0.50 to $1 per page) ... but then the rest of the tools and supplies are cheap (common white glue, straight edges, etc). On...

    My latest project

Nomad, thanks for posting the photo! That's your first card model? Congratulations, great job! I have wondered what a ScaleScenes modular structure looks like if you really extend it - now I know! :) But I'm surprised by the footprint- it's only 3" wide? Is it a low relief model? Does...

    too many good people here

This is interesting because all of the above could also be said of the card modeling forum. When I first came across cardmodels.net (as it was known before migrating to Zealot), I thought the uncommonly civil and encouraging atmosphere was probably due to the hobby's enthusiasts being...

    Manufacturing in China

I like that idea, I will follow suit, posting only once more to address some questions raised about the figures I cited. Then it's back to card modeling. :-) It's true that jobs have also been created in that same period, something like 50 million, but many of them pay less than the jobs...

    Manufacturing in China

The unions? I'm having a hard time seeing that. Union membership and influence in the US has been declining for over 50 years. Even in the 1940s union membership in the US was only about 35% of all workers. By the beginning of the period you are talking about (roughly the last 25 years)...

    WW2 over done?

I think this is a cultural issue that extends beyond models, for reasons RyanShort1 cited. Go to a neighborhood bookstore for instance, and you will observe the same thing. There will be more books about World War II than all other wars in American history combined. Films, ditto. We...

Exceedingly cool, great job as always!

    Flat structure, perspective correction

Looks like you corrected the perspective well! :thumb: No problem, those three issues could be remedied in about 10 minutes with any decent graphics application. What I would worry about instead is the apparent low resolution of the original image (if the posted JPG is any indication)...

    Google Earth

I just love Google Earth, and use it as a reference for model design (I design architectural cardstock models). Google Earth has (at least) two features that really make it stand out. Resolution - for major cities, the resolution is sometimes amazing. In Manhattan you can clearly see...

    Spiders, Spiders, everywhere....Help!

Another alternative is to find out the natural predator of this type of spider. Maybe some kind of small frog. Does your layout have a pond? ;-)

    My first catalog house

It's looking great! Love the "posed" in-progress shots, the lighting and other details are very convincing.

Are we running faster and better?

Things are MUCH faster from Shanghai (China). Before, I was clocking page loads in the 3 - 5 minute range (across cable broadband). Tonight, the last two threads had 20 *second* page load times. That's a difference of an order of magnitude! Great job!! Also glad to hear we can again...
