    Decisions and Dilemmas...

You could do what many HOn30ers do. We take N scale loco's and convert them to HOn30 with a scratch built body or by modification to the N scale model. See: http://www.the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=6774&highlight=hoe A $30 P2K S-1 from trainworld would be a great candidate for similar...

    Metal water tower roof

I wish I had a better shot of the roof handy: http://the-gauge.com/showthread.php?t=6881&page=4&pp=5&highlight=blacksmith The roof turned out to be one of the highlights of the model. It was my first metal roof. I didn't really know how to color or weather it so I just dived in and tried...

    Apparently spelling doesn't count anymore

There are many good points on this thread. Lynn makes a great point. I'll add to that that it is poor etiquit and considered rude to even mention spelling or grammer on an international forum. This has been brought up on this forum before. I would also like to point out that we have several...

Advice on Quality HO please :)

Welcome to God's scale. Most of the stuff is decent quality if you upgrade to metal wheels and kadees. I got (kit build) atherns, MDC, and IHC and see little difference in quality. The detail varies. Life Like P2K and others are beautiful in detail, but more expensive and overkill for what I do.

    need some info

When balasting, by hand I run an old tyco deep flanged truck back and forth to make sure I have clearance for modern trucks plus a little. Maybe that will help. If the track is to run below the subroadbed, you might use an nmra gauge to check clearance to the sides of the track, else run the...

    Sparks are flying----

Not stupid, just new... The tender carries the water and coal (or oil, or wood, or even sugar cane stalks) for the loco. Usually it's permantly attached. Not all loco's have tenders, as they have a water tank on the loco itself, which is why it's called a tank loco in that case. It's the...
