Valley NTRAK's new mini rotary camera

Could not leave well enough alone. Had to decrease the height of the unit somehow. I was able to accomplish it by dropping the 9V battery down into the frame. So I made another complete unit, one this time with a tender. Still a little "Moosey" for "N" scale but it'll do.

    Atlas Shay

I too am waiting for my undecorated Shay. Robin have you any idea how much of a grade your Shay will climb, say with three cars? Have a crazy idea for a switch back NTrak module and was wondering how much of a grade I can design into it.

    Da Goose runs okay

Love to run my little Goose on the club layout during our train shows. Have to run it fairly fast because it stalls easily. Don't know if it needs more weight or the little Kato mechanism just does not have enough elect. pickup. The kids all chase it asking "what's that".

Valley NTRAK's new mini rotary camera

The proportions of the roatary are very exaggerated but it's size was dictated by the components of the camera.

Valley NTRAK's new mini rotary camera

"SMILE YOU ARE ON CANDID CAMERA" Just about finished with my "N" scale scratch build mini camera roatary snow plow. Will wait a day or so for the paint to completly dry and then give it a shot of dull coat. Might try the alcohol spray to further weather it. Then lastly, add the window glass.

    mini camera rotary snow plow

Mark, when forming the curved roofs, heat the styrene in the sectioned PVC. When it starts to sag slightly press it down to form the curve with the smaller piece of PVC. Took a little practice to evenly heat the styrene, it seems to reach the softening state slowly and if you go too far with...

    mini camera rotary snow plow

Tyson the last thing I will do is bend the antenna back about 45 degrees. It will still hit tunnel portals but should bend or flex to clear. The one I saw being demonstrated at a show was going through tunnels and under an overhead signal the antenna was just pushed down further. In either...

    mini camera rotary snow plow

Ruined a number of styrene pieces trying to get a curved roof. Found an easy solution by sectioning a piece of 1 1/2 inch PCV pipe. I heated the .04" styrene with the wife's embossing heat gun. (shhhh, not suppose to touch her stamping stuff) When the plastic softened I then formed the curve...

    mini camera rotary snow plow

The car is jointed or articulated so that I can swivel the camera. Not prototypical but it works great.

    mini camera rotary snow plow

About a week ago I responded to a post about making a car to hold a mini camera. When scratch building, I like most of us, could not leave well enough alone. This front end, to house the camera, looked too much like a rotary snow plow.

    Camera mounted on train

Don't know what to do with the battery yet, lay it flat or stand it on edge. Laying flat it overhangs the car on both sides. The camera housing can swivel slightly to either side.

    Camera mounted on train

Will use six wheel passenger trucks on the car. (For the picture they are just being used as props and are not mounted)
