Logging - need picture of clear cut

Looking on modeling the late 1800s early 1900. Do not need the picture of a clear cut anymore, gave up and decided to go another route. I will show the mountain on the right clear cut in all it's ugliness. Stumps, ya I got that" - made a mold of several stumps and will cast up a hundred or...

Logging - need picture of clear cut

Ziltch with both the Milford and Stratford libraries. Giving up, and will take another route. I will create the clear cut havoc on the right module and use a background of old growth forests. Mason Jar - I will show the destruction with spar tree hauling, even plan on having an oxen team...

Logging - need picture of clear cut

Tileguy, WOW! thank you for your offer. I had not thought of doing a fall scene. I am basically modeling the Northeast and any remaining stands I would prefer conifer over deciduous. I'll attach some pics of the two modules, I plan on covering most of the mountians with large pine stands and...

Logging - need picture of clear cut

Hi Loudmusic, I did the same search both on Google and Ask, but nothing as you say I could use. Went though all my Timber Time magazines, several looked promising but I would have to blank out the camp, loader or engine that was featured in the foreground. I guess the library might be my next...

I hope I did the reference to a previous thread right, but here is my answer to empty passenger cars. I get a lot of ohhhs and ahhhs at train shows because all my N scale SF passenger cars are full of LPBs. Love telling my fellow Club members that they are running their passenger cars and...

    Cinch-Jones 302 series connectors

Inkaneer you are right the Cinch Jones 302 two pin series are still the standard for wiring NTrak modules. I believe for large shows, especially where DCC is used, they may require the wiring to the Aternate Wiring Recommended Practices (RP). http://www.ntrak.org/wiring_connectors_rp.htm Our...

    Cinch-Jones 302 series connectors

Hello Dwight, If you are a member of an NTrak club they can order the Cinch-Jones plugs from: NTRAK, Order Dept. 15913 Brawner Dr. Montclair, VA 22027. The NTrak standards have been changed to replace the Cinch-Jones plugs witn "Powerpole" Connectors. Our Club has not mandated the new PP...

    Coupling

George I found the cheapest way out, if you decide to go with the Micro Train couplers, is David's suggestion #3. I use Micro Train #1015s (short shank) and screw them onto the floor of the car. The short shank gives a more prototypical look. You do need a height gage to ensure the heights...

    Some interesting little items

Wished I had my camera with me the other day. On the New Haven line in Stratford, CT I saw a work crew with a fair sized crane car. The crane was fitted with a huge electromagnet at the end of it's boom. Hard to believe he was operating it in such a tight space under the overhead electric...

I Picked Trash Now I am in The Doghouse

Working on my NTrak modules I needed some pieces of 2" foam to build up my mountains. The thought of spending $9.00 on a new 2 x 8 sheet, only to cut up in little pieces, went against my frugalness. (Cheapness) There was a construction sight that was using 2" foam for insulation on concrete...

    Saturday - Have you ridden????

As a kid in the 40's, my Grandmother would take my brother and I to Nova Scotia for the summer. We took the train out of North Station, Boston and traveled up into Canada and then a ferry ride across the Bay of Fundy into Digby, Nova Scotia. On several occcasions, when we left late in the...

    Laying out NTrak modules

Good question "88", having trouble finding free time to work on it. Long long way to go yet. Did get some done today. Beautiful day to be outside grinding syrofoam insulation. Using my homemade hot wire cutter to shape the left mountain - too darn slow. Found that a 2" sander in my drill...

    Laying out NTrak modules

Starting to plan the track work for my two new NTrak modules. Going for a logging scene and will be switchbacking up from the blue line to the mountain division. Using a 5% grade for the 3" of rise. Nothing in the picture is anchored. I have everything pinned in place continually rearranging...

To prime or not to prime...

At the last protype meet, earlier this year, I found the best solvent to clean parts is a laundry product called "Shout" and rinsing your parts in water after cleaning. Worst cleaning product is dishwashing liquids. Dishwashing liquids all contain emolients added to keep your hands soft. The...

    asphalt and concrete

Jim, I was able to do it in N scale but it is a very tedious cleaning job. I used drywall compound since it cures slowly and is easily worked. I spread and smoothed the compound right over the track, level with the top of the rail. I then took a junk freight car and pushed it along the track...

    Telephone Pole lines question

Hope you havn't gone too far with the thread Herc Driver. Check out "EZ Line" it is a product put out by Berkshire Junction. www.berkshirejunction.com The lines can be put up same as with thread, but it stretches. It comes in different gauges and several colors. I used it heavily on one of...

    Starting my NTrak modules

I am now ready to start planning the scenery. Have several ideas in mind but I need a picture that I can reproduce for a backdrop. Looking for a fjord like scene with water and pine trees. Looking to create a small lake that will wind behind several mountain tails and then give the appearance...

    Starting my NTrak modules

Satisfied with the legs and their adjustment I then went on to provide alignment dowels. Since these two modules will always be used together I wanted an easy alignment of the two when setting up. Here I secure dowels on one side to align the second module for clamping.
