Oldies but Goodies. The Old Stuff.

When I graduated from college in '94, my parents bought me this brass United 2-6-6-2 Mallet for a graduation present. It was used then so I don't know when it was actually sold as new. Regardless, in 2006 I had the hots to change it over to DCC and remotor it but that project went next to nowhere.

    Photo Fun 6-13-08

Those are some pretty serious fault lines around that park. I hope none of those kids fall in while watchin' the sky chasin' a fly ball or a home run hit. Might want to post some warning signs so nobody gets hurt!

Here we go! Gotta start somewhere.

First off, welcome to The Gauge! I feel honored that my thread was worthy of your first comment. Regarding the backdrops, this is the first layout I've put backdrops on and I like the effect. I still have not decided if I am going to have a custom backdrop printed or whether I will try and paint...

    What's wrong with Trains.com??

I couldn't tell ya'. To check the link is the first time I've ever been there and that was only for about 5 seconds.

    What's wrong with Trains.com??

When I used your link, I got nothin'. If I typed it in fresh in the path bar, it came up just fine.

    foam vs balsa?

Not so. That's exactly how my son and I constructed ours and it handles the weight just fine. We're not building houses here, just railroads! Here you can see our benchwork on 12" centers... The next shot shows how I laid 1 layer of 1" thick foam on top of the benchwork and I've...

    New Desktop Layout

Can you elaborate on the wood paneling? So far, I've used sound board for my fascias and backdrops and have found that it won't bend much tighter than about a 16" radius. Yours looks like it would handle a much tighter curve.

    Reminiscing-First Train Set

Hey, I've seen that engine somewhere before! Yours looks to be in slightly better shape than mine does.

    Reminiscing-First Train Set

Back in the late 70's, my grandmother got me hooked on N scale. I did not start out with a set but rather an engine, a caboose and some flex track. There in my wee little hand yee shall see my first Bachman EMD GP40. AND, it still lives today! ...well, I still have it anyways... whether or not...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Thank you Jefelectric. I've put a lot of work into the home layout but all of that was just a learning curve for my new design - The Podunk and Urbanopolis. Fun stuff. I never noticed until the passing of Krawler, how you guys have got your own little world in here! There are several of you...

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

Aye but that's where you're wrong! We are Mac's! MacDonald's that is! Yeh, yeh, yeh, I know that's not what you meant but funny still the same.

Come on back to the caboose and get a cup of coffee [or sweet ice tea] Part V

To get closer to the trains of course! Do you consider this "roughing it"? This is as about as rough as my wife will tolerate! This was taken near Williams, AZ a couple weeks ago... a good railfanning town!

Nice save! For me, it's usually 20/20 hindsight.wall1

Need some ideas for my mini layout (pics!)

I've done four layouts similar to this. Below you can find the links to each. Usually, I put a town in the middle. Perhaps you can glean some ideas from them. Father son project Coffee Table layout #1 Coffee Table layout #2 Coffee Table layout #3

    We've lost another friend.

Some of you have already seen this in the caboose thread. For the rest of us, May 23, 11:17, Then, yesterday, June 1st, According to his profile, Krawler was a mere 31 years young. We thank you so very much Kim for the update as saddening as it is. I pray you find peace and comfort in...

I went out and bought a hot chocolate at Starbucks since our check came to a grand total of $3.74.

    Lone Wolf Operators:

I have two seperate main lines and so can run two trains simulataneously without conflict. Often, I will dispatch two more out of the yard for a total of four... two on each main. That's about the time something derails or uncouples and then I'm doing the mad button punch scramble to get the...

The Podunk and Urbanopolis in HO/HOn3 & N

Close, but no cigar. HOn3 is 36" between rails and thus a scale 6 inches less than N scales 4'8 1/2". I would have to have HOn30 (30" between rails) to be able to run it on N scale track. When I first bought my narrow guage engine, I had grand dillusions of bringing it home to test run it on...
