    Turntable

Trainiac, I have been out of town, so sorry it took so long to answer your question. I have the Walthers 130' TT, 933-2829, but the roundhouse I have is made up of the modern roundhouse, 933-2900 and the add-on 933-2901. I installed the roundhouse 1 15/16" from the TT as per the...

    Double Crossover with Hare

Guys, Thanks for all the inputs! I finally bit the bullet and called one of Tony's "techies" (they make the Hare/wabbit). He says one Hare would be overloaded by 4 Tortoises. I did not go into the technical details, but he suggests 4 Hares or 2 Wabbits, as several of you have done. He...

    Double Crossover with Hare

Shaun, Thanks for your reply. As I noted from another thread, it appears that there is really no case where changing all 4 turnouts to straight or thrown would be a problem operationally (if all are thrown a train can cross and another train cannot go straight anyway, and if all are...

    Double Crossover with Hare

I have a double crossover on my layout and have installed a tortoise machine for each of the 4 turnouts in the crossover. I learned in another thread that a good way to control it would be to to wire all the Tortoises together so that when one is changed they all change from straight to thrown...

The start of my Camas Prairie based layout.

Nice looking project! Looks like you have done your home work. Good smooth flowing tracks and not cluttered, as I tend to let my layout become. Keep up the good work.

    Bumpers vs wheel stops

That photo reminds me that I like yellow bumpers and wheel stops, but figured I needed to make them rusty to be realistic. This photo seems to say just the opposite. Thanks Ralph, Gary

    Turntable

Update, Feb 24 By way of update, I got all the roundhouse stall floors in, the machine shop in, and all the other tracks leading to the TT. I have tested them and set them into the index program and everything seems to work. I also added all the feeder wires to those tracks. The only problem I...

    Bumpers vs wheel stops

I am thinking more transition and modern era. Thanks for the inputs. Sounds like there is some latitude in which one to use and the idea would be to use wheel stops in low speed, lower value areas and use bumpers where more stopping power is require. Thanks, Gary

    Bumpers vs wheel stops

Does anyone know when a bumper would be used rather than wheel stops? Are either used at the end of the tracks in a round house/repair shop? I am interested as they would most likely be used in yard areas or industry spurs. Thanks, Gary

    Turntable

Floyd: "Mentor could you tell me what dimensions of your table are that the turntable and roundhouse are placed on? I have a diamond 135' turntable that needs installation and am thinking about an extension to my present layout." Floyd, the engine service area is on a peninsula. Overall it is...

    Turntable

Thanks. BTW sgtcarl, did you receive my PM to answer your question? Today I tried the indexing feature on this TT for the first time and to my delight it worked just as advertised. I wired it with temporary 15VAC power for the drive and temperary track power for the bridge track. It was...

    Turntable

I made a little more progress today. Did a lot of electrical feeders and finished the ramp leading down to the TT from the roadbed level. One issue I am running into is that the pit is a real dust collector and should probably be covered most of the time as the instructions make a point about...

    Turntable

Trainiac77, Thanks for the tip. I did not find what I needed at Radio Shack so maybe this will do the trick. Yesterday I got three service tracks installed leading to the TT. I had to install the cinder pit and tower first as it goes under one of the service tracks. I also glued all 5...

    Turntable

Well, I got the securing screws in the bottom of the TT and cut the hole for the control box in the fascia. That went ok except the cable connection has to be at the top of the box and there is no room above the hole so I plan to mount it by rotating it 90 degrees so the cable and wires connect...

    Hare with Tortoise

Andrew, Thanks a bunch. That is just what I was looking for. I will have to get more into the instructions that come with the Hare when I am ready to set them up, but now I can plan it out. Thanks again. Gary

    Hare with Tortoise

Andrew, I bought a few of the Hare's, but have not installed them yet. Since I do not plan to have large operating sessions, I would like to simplify operations where I can. I might like to program Hares at critical turnouts so I can throw several of them at the same time to allow a segment...

    Looking at buying flex track.

I know you can order from cchobbies by phone since I have done that. I believe you can order via the email address they provide also. Sorry, can't help with the Atlas switch machine as I have not used them.

    Turntable

sgtcarl, Yes, fighters and trainers, 1965 to 1991. So why am I mixed up with trains? Just got hooked about 10 years ago and the rest is history. Gary

    Hare with Tortoise

I am interested in using Hare's with my tortoise switch machines. I found some older threads, but would like to know if anyone has any recent experience with them. Thanks, Gary

    Looking at buying flex track.

Boy, track has gone up! I swear I bought 100 pieces of Atlas code 83 for about $250 just a couple of years ago. But you are correct as I as far I can see today. In fact, several places don't even list a 100-pack as an item. 1stplace hobbies is usually one of my favorite on-line stores for...
