N scale track with built in plastic roadbed?????

I also don't care for the molded roadbed because it limits the track design.. However,if I was to use this track I would use Atlas's Trutrack or Kato's Unittrack

A Money Making Idea That Keeps Popping Into My Head

There's a fella that does have a rubber wheel train that he takes around to various street fairs/festivals..The whole shebang fits on a 16' flat trailer that looks like it was made from a boat trailer. So,yeah,if a man has the time needed he could make a few bucks but,he would need to be...

    Another Layout Thread

It appears you are modeling a short line if so I submit the following as food for thought. This applies to the bottom layout. I would do away with the engine house and use those switches for two more industries or a small 2 track overflow yard. I really like that bottom layout..Simple...

    MRC decoders

Les,The MRC sheer brilliance sound decoders works quite well in the DC mode but,DCC seems to kill these decoders because of the programing as you found out. Best solution is rip those decoders out and go with either the Soundtraxx or Digitrax DCC/Sound decoders.

    DC or DCC??

Les,A new modeler could start with the very basic Bachmann EZ DCC for about the same price as a MRC power pack at discount. The real startup cost is in the decoders.Of course a very basic DCC decoder can be had for $15.95. One can always upgrade later if they choose to.

    Narrow shelf layout

Either that or use a "kill switch" or better still aviod the entrance.

    DC or DCC??

Simple really..We are paying for the manufacturer to buy the decoders and then somebody gets paid to install them at the factory. Enter Bachmann..They use a simple decoder in their DCC on board standard line locomotives and sells them for less then $80.00...Go and try to figure that one...

    Frusterated with LBF Boxcar Kits

Josh,Maybe that was a bad kit? Try another with the lessons learn from the first kit.. I wish I could help beyond that but,I avoid kits with a zillion tiny detail pieces for the same reasons you mention.

Beyond the railfan "hot spots" usually leads to better photos as your pictures show...That's why I usually drift away and find my own spots. On the other hand, being a talker I just might spend more time talking then taking pictures!!!! sign1
