    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

I haven't done much building since my transcontinental move east, but I was reading through some back issues of Mainline Modeler and Model Railroading and saw a little article by Dean Freytag on modelling heavy industrial equipment that inspired me to organize my workbench and get something...

    Really bashed vehicles.

Maybe instead of a resident of the yard, it could be parked out front as the restored vehicle of a customer of the yard that's standing next to it, discussing some old parts he's just purchased from the yard for the restoration.

Loads for two open cars ???

Black electrical tape works really well for simulating steel banding - it's got the right amount of sheen and the proper texture, unlike Chartpak tape. Stick it to a piece of styrene and cut strips to the width you need, then apply.

An interesting B&O box car of 1867

    Excellant modelling!

    runaway trains in yard

There a few methods I've seen used to successfully combat this - "whiskars" of fishing line were already mentioned, and if you want to model a less well maintained yard, weeds made from paintbrush bristles will do the trick. The method I'd be more inclined to use would be a brake system with...

    Good Looking Ground Cover

I'm basically in the same boat, but plan to use it at the base of some culverts to indicate pooled water from recent rains.

    Good Looking Ground Cover

I found a link to this tutorial on another forum, and thought I'd post it here: http://ardleybridge.fotopic.net/c1501517.html It's a great product for quick, Silflor-like grass, and readily available. I went to my local Michael's and cleaned them out.

    The Regression of Model Railroading

I agree with the statement that you can get out of the hobby what you want from it. If you want to snap some track together and run trains on the carpet - they still make that...go for it. If you want to handlay track...go for it. Want something in-between? Why not? The same goes for locos...

    HO Scale Operational Hi-Rail

I'd take a look thru a Walthers N & Z scale catalogue for some ideas on motors and assemblies.

Top Ten Reasons To Avoid Denver

"Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Union representative Mike Young said he is critical of the safety of remote control operations." (emphasis added) Yeah, no bias there....

    North American mags folding

It's a shame - I cherish my back issues of Mainline Modeler and Model Railroading - they both offered a wealth of information. I find that I even prefer Railroad Model Craftsman over Model Railroader, as scratch building and prototypical information are much more useful to me than a 4'x8'...

    Working cars and roadways?

That's largely my point - we as model railroaders have our specific interest (the trains), and that's not going to go away. But maybe some friends that aren't interested in trains would love to visit our layouts and drive cars around the streets and towns while we operate the trains. And they...

    Working cars and roadways?

Wow - fully radio controlled HO scale autos are one of the coolest things I've ever seen - if these were to ever become common / affordable, think about the bridge they would open to let others into the hobby. And the dune buggy with the fully operational suspention system (at about the 2:30...

    Working cars and roadways?

That's an idea that could be very well suited to my grandiose plans for a "someday" layout - the 10 Freeway in Southern CA parallels the tracks for some distance, and is generally located at a level slightly below the tracks. Slow moving heavy traffic as a background element could be very...

    Another scratched tender.

Great looking model, Dave. I'd love to see you start a thread with some tips and techniques.

What type of roads for industrial area?

There's a lot of options - and the "mixed media" may help to reinforce the nature of the area. Depending on the locale, a nice detail to model is old brick streets that have been paved over with asphault, which has broken off in places, revealing the brick below. And John Pryke's MR article on...

Passengers in passenger cars, yes or no

Yes, add 'em - I've seen more than a few pics in the model RR mags with gleaming name trains totally empty - it's kind of a letdown. As to how many passengers to add - let history and your prototype (if you have one) be the guide; are you modelling the heyday of the passenger train, or a modern...

    Dolly.....(Off topic...)

Wow. We're all prepped for TS Fay to come through later today, and are glad it's going to be nothing like Dolly (at least here in Miami).
