    Recession Hurting Big $ Kits?

I think kits like these http://www.reynaulds.com/products/Trix/66120.aspx might be moving off the shelves slowly, while folks pick up smaller kits and maybe do a little scratchbuilding, or build some of the kits stacked up in their closets :thumb:

    My Miami Layout

Looks good - just like the units I see pulling long trains of crushed limestone past my shop all the time.

    Pallets of bricks and Blocks?

I agree - the detailing is a little weak - the 'bands' are overly thick, and run in the wrong direction - prototype palletized CMUs are either shrink wrapped like you've noticed, or a few rows are strapped horizontally; ModelRailStuff's banding leaves a lot of units loose (if they weren't a...

    PROTO:87 vs. Regular "Standard" HO

    My Miami Layout

Great looking structure models!!! And great looking model RR overall, too. Nice to see it progressing well.

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

Thanks. Excellant thought - tomorrow I'll post a few of the reference pics I used. The models are composits of several prototypes. The structure will be scratchbuilt & kit bashed, based on the prototype, probably mostly from Pikestuff corrugated steel panels. It'll be on the layout edge and...

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

Some pics of the finalized injection molding machines - some decals added, light weathering on the newer unit, heavier on the older one, and hydraulic cables added to the injection equipment plus smaller diameter cooling lines on the mold halves. Now I just need to build the factory to house...

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

And here's the finished pipe extrusion line - now all I need is some scale lengths of 8" pipe. It's amazing what a coat of paint and a few decals do:thumb:

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

Here are a few more progress shots. In addition to some more panelling, I've added some technical looking details from my scrap box, and built an outfeed table from a casting for a porch railing and some 4x4 square styrene. I can't wait to get some paint on these puppies this weekend:thumb:

    Steel mill modellers...

I'm posting in this thread, because this has valuable information for all modelling steel mills. These links have some great reference photography. Bethlehem Steel http://flickr.com/photos/81286782@N00/sets/72157594294985048/ Radomir Metals http://www.radomir-metals.com/index-en.html The...

plastics hauled in the covered hoppers

Yep, I've worked with the stuff, and it's well described above - a narrow 1/8" or so rod that's been chopped into 3/16" +/- pellets. Also, FWIW, styrene (which most of our models are made of), is naturally clear and quite brittle (think of the clear windshield parts) - in addition to color...

    Really bashed vehicles.

Good looking modelling. Replacing a few of the thick die-cast pieces with the thin metal does wonders in improving the realism.

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

Thanks for the tip. I had planned to add the conveyor for finished parts, but a 2nd convery for the sprues hadn't crossed my mind. I've got most of the pre-paint detailing for the pipe extursion line done, I'll post some more progress pics later today.

    Printable ho ruler

Cool. I printed off both sizes for HO scale - my trusty metal scaler ruler is packed in a stack of boxes.

In the future - no rails?

Dare I say, Supercoolsign1 Though I wouldn't want to be on one of the building-hugging trains if its superconductor went above the 'transition temperature'...

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

Dave, there's actually a fair amount of information on the web as to how to build your own real machine on the cheap, and several manufacturers of small machines that run on compressed air (I've used a machine built by Morgan Press) - the prices aren't bad; the most difficult part is the tooling...

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

Thanks everyone. I know the figure is funky - I wanted to add a scale reference, and that's the only one I found handy, mixed with some scrap styrene (like I said, I just started getting my work area set back up:rolleyes:). Anyway, I thought I'd hold out on the big 'secret' to building these...

    HO Scale Injection Molding Equipment

I also built a few wooden crates, experimenting with different materials. I have some veneer samples that look like (and, technically, are) scale plywood.
