A closer look at the layout.

This is agreat little project, Ray! :thumb: I think I mentioned to you that it reminded me of one of Gordon Odegard's old features in MR... Back in the 70's N scale was still in its infancy, & was kind of relegated to the category of "toy trains"... Odegard though, was at the forefront of...

    Do i really need DCC

I'm in the process of building an HO layout...I haven't gotten to the wiring stage yet...I'm "old school", & I've never used anything but DC cab control...I have to admit I'm still a little mystified by the DCC concept, & have to admit it's a little intimidating to me! BUT...I'm going to be...

    Hello everyone! Beginning model RR...

Hi Tracker! Welcome aboard! If I were you, I’d have my sights set on the finished room… You could build in there without doing any damage/alterations to the existing walls… You could build free-standing bencwork along the walls, without having to touch the actual walls…You could even...

    Garage Layout

COOL!! You're at about the same point I am with my HO layout! Mine is in the basement, not the garage...But I also had to move my guitars & amps out of the way to build the benchwork! :)

    Geez, What a Mess!

Amen to that Mark! sign1 I would add that if you can list an inventory of what's on your bench, or see the actual surface of the workbench itself, you're WAAAYYY more oganized than me! :curse: wall1

any advice on nailing track to cork roadbed on 5/8 plywood

I'd glue it to the cork as well... There's no need to nail down N scale track...That's like hunting rabbit with an elephant gun...

    Matthro..Some regrets

Yeah...I think the pile of rocks & the piece of track were mine! No seriously though, I dabbled with that cardboard a couple of times, but I could never get the hang of it! He did AMAZING stuff with it! I seem to remember a through-truss span he built that was like 400 scale feet...

    Matthro..Some regrets

Robin’s greatest gift, besides his stellar scratchbuilding skills, was his kind spirit, & enthusiasm… He always was complimentary, & had words of encouragement for the rest of us “mere mortals”! Thank goodness for guys like Jimmy, who went to great lengths to preserve his extraordinary work!

Starting Over With An HO Layout

I’m still puttering along here… This is where the high line will cross over the lower line…I’m wanting to build a concrete arch bridge here that will cross over the tracks where the boxcar is, & a stream, (indicated by the green line) This is where I’m planning on building a small town...

    Time Periods

By having an RS32, & an F3, you're running 1st & 2nd generation diesels...if you were going for "prototypically correct" Class 1 operations, this would set your era sometime in the early 60's to mid-70's But a shortline...Aaahhh...that's a different matter! You can still find many 2nd geneation...

"Planters Creek" - (Very) Small N Scale Diorama

This was a little project I did kind of on a whim this past spring… I had seen some similar type things on a couple of other forums, so I thought I’d try my own version of a diorama on a jar lid… I had this tiny scratchbuilt trestle that I had salvaged from an N scale layout I had torn down, & I...

Starting Over With An HO Layout

Thanks for all the comments, guys! :) I did get the benchwork up pretty fast I guess… But things have slowed down some…I’m almost to the tracklaying phase…I’m wanting to go ahead & jump into DCC with this layout, & I’m also wanting to use Tortoise switch machines with decoders…so for someone...

    HO Scale Buildings and Structures

I think the kits by Walthers & DPM are a good place to start for someone just getting into the hobby…They’re inexpensive, yet well-scaled, with good detailing… Also, if you’re interested in getting into the craftsman type wood kits, I think Campbell kits are good for beginners to start with…Once...
