    Home-Made Hot Wire Foam Cutter

If anyone is interested to know exactly how much juice they have running through their new foam cutter then remember Mr. Ohm and his law: I=E/R. Amps=Volts/resistance. And when you have amps you can have watts! It's great!! Sorry. I get a little excited about electricity. I guess I am married...

    Home-Made Hot Wire Foam Cutter

Well, the resistance of #10 AWG copper wire is .00118 ohms per foot and can handel 30 amps at 120V. so the way I'm looking at it #10 is a great size wire for cutting foam! More power!! EZ is right in that you will burn out the transformer long before anything happens to that wire. :)

Hey Sumpter250, Have you ever been to Sumpter Valley out here in Oregon? I'm curious were you got the name...There's a great railroad out there that is a blast to ride on...The run a Hysler. My Dad got me up into the cab when I was a kid... What a hoot!

For discussion - how do you name your layout?

Good questions... I don't think you need to justify it at all! Obviously the CN is "managing" operations on the M & N...Just until they get their offices up and running Then, once that's done, the M & N will be able to paint up some engines and cars with the M & N logo on them and start...

For discussion - how do you name your layout?

It seems to me that you can name it pretty much anything. Sky's the limit. Although, some names would be just plain silly. My layout is based on Burlighton Northern. (Although UP, SP and even NYC gear has been known to rumble through once in a while ) But then the BNSF shares the line with...

All Members :) Gauge Member's Location Map!!

Well who knows the truth. My Dad could have been yanking my chain (He did that quite well) He said people found it walking the old Sumpter Valley grade over Mt. Dixie. He said it had gone off of one of those switchbacks going up the Prarie City side. Narrows that down don't you...

All Members :) Gauge Member's Location Map!!

Hey Pitchwife! it's nice to see another "Oregonian" around! I've been to John Day many times. My Dad grew up in Bates on the other side of Mt Dixie so he was always dragging me over there when I was a kid. My grandpa was a D-8 mechanic for Oregon Lumber. (Love the Sumpter Valley RR!!!)...
