Nice little layout, your opinion ?

I think it fits a lot of features in a limited space, which gives it a lot of appeal! (but) I see two turnouts with grade crossings going right over 'em. Is that allowed in the Proto Police rules??? I'm thinkin' it's a little problematic.:D

    Help me power my FROG!

The screw kit with an Atlas selector it has a screw and a little brass tab to attach to the frog to which you can solder a wire. You can't solder to the frog, but if you don't have the Atlas parts you can tap the hole and use a machine screw if you want.

    Easements

I'm sure you know, there's no "requirement" for easements; they are a detail lending realism to a layout.:thumb: You can create easements with either type of track. I think they make quite a difference, but like I said, it's only one man's opnion!:D

    Easements

Of course, the big difference is that instead of going from zero radius to 18" radius in zero length, the easement provides a gradual transition from straight (infinite radius) into the 18" radius. The improvement in the appearance of an operating train, from what someone recently called the...

    Reversing Loop - Need Help

If the 2 to 3 section were removed, there is still a reverse loop, I think.

    Reversing Loop - Need Help

The whole section fron 1 to 4 to 3 to 2 is completely isolated (according to the sketch) from the main line, is it not? I just don't see a short there. If there is one, across which gap (1,2,3,4) would it exist? I'm following that rail around and I don't see the inside become the outside...

    Reversing Loop - Need Help

I'll qualify that. What about those crossovers on the section going off to the right? Does that "main line" loop there off the page?? If so, no bueno. Did this run before you added the 1 to 4 connection?

    Reversing Loop - Need Help

Mannix, I'm not so sure that there is anything wrong with the way you show it. I would disconnect the rev module and and test that no short exists across any rail gap. If all OK, apply DCC power. If it shows no short, then I would jumper(alligator clip) each rail across the gaps at 1...

    Electric switches and tortoise motors

Hi Stan! Another Tortoise feature is a stall motor with very low current draw. Coils will not burn out, pushbuttons do not arc, no CDUs required, two-position toggle switches can be used.

Advise on travel to New Mexico back to Florida

I saw on the tube a new cantilevered obsrvation deck at the Grand Canyon, which they say is really spectacular! I first thought it a little obtrusive, but the place is so big that it doesn't really take up much of it!:D I would love to get out there to see it. My better half has been Out West...

    New water feature advice please

The sand is not dark enough for a realistic lake bottom, and it will show through a transparent material. Probably should paint it black. Harold Minky, I think, was trying reflective mylar balloon material which looked pretty dang good. Many just use a shiny varnish over a darker base without...
