    Mini N layout ...

Thanx, gents! I'm going to check on those markers for the rails, good idea. I'm working on the depot building, seems it's taking forever, but my layout time is limited. Right now I'm waiting for the SolidWorks class to start in Nashville, thought I'd take a sec to check the forum:D

    Going Digital in N-gage

Hi Tone  and Welcome to The-Gauge! There may not be a lot of folks familiar with that loco here, but we would sure be interested to see how you do it!!:)

    First Amature Layout

In my humble opinion, laying the roadbed is the easiest part of track-laying! :) :) Just follow the centerline.... :D :D

    First Amature Layout

 Hi J Nuttin' wrong with 2 x 4s, just heavier! And maybe 99.5% of model rairoaders are amateurs, no matter how accomplished they may be!:D :D :D There are many who wish they could get paid for it, but those who do are few and far between!! Your layout looks good; are you planning...

    double crossing

"There's a prototype for everything", or so they say. You can bet that somewhere, sometime.... Considering all the different responses to the track spacing thread, it's not surprising that nobody makes one!! :D :D

    Distance between parallel tracks?

1.5" center-to-center in HO scales to 10'10-5/8" in real life. AAR boxcar width is 10'-8". That would give you less than 3" clearance between cars. I have measured the track spacing in an industrial yard in Memphis and it was 14' even. ???

Gus, That is an excellent suggestion!! And he can set the spacing exactly how he wants! :thumb:

    Successful Use of Electromagnets?

MR had an article two or three years ago about adding washers or plates to better concentrate the field, with pics and a how-to. If you're interested, I'll see if I can find it in the bear pit, but no promises!

    New Possibilities!

I liked the original better. You don't have to be 2' wide all along the wall with the door, if you need to make room for that peninsula. May be a concave front? The peninsula in the middle of the two new layouts I think is too skinny, although you could fit a wye onto it.

    Selective Compression Of Wyes?

You need enough straight at the end to accommodate a loco and tender. Whatever radius your loco can stand is fine. The relative shrinking of the radius is probably as much or more than the length, anyway. :thumb: (Modeler's Licence) Some old turntables were even turned by hand:)
