    Logging Flat Cars?

The cars that you have pictured are currently being used here in Montana and throughout the NW. Montana Rail Link has a bunch of them. I believe one of the 2005 issues of Timber Times Magazine had an article on Simpson Timber Co. operations at Shelton, WA that showed the same type of car.

    Atlas flex track, radius

Now that I don't have a need for it ( I used the string method) I bought a device called a beam compass. It uses 1/2 inch dowel or aluminum tubing. Made by DascoPro. Bought it at Sears. There is also a device called trammel points but they are machinist quality tools and are pricey.

    On30 Spectrum

I've run my On30 equipment on our HO club layout, when no one is looking. Definitely looks out of scale and won't go through any tunnels and the clearances are too close. On30 is a great scale for use where you want larger models in a limited space but you need to realize that it requires O...

    Un-gluing stuff...

By the time you separate the glue from the wood, you will have also separated the cork from the glue, leaving useless roadbed and lumps of glue here and there. As you said "lesson learned".

    Soldering music wire...

I've used silver soldering for components of wind tunnel models but as stated above , "its a torch operation due to the high melting point". There may be an electrical system that produces high enough temperature but I don't know if something like that would be cost effective for home use.

    Tex'n Rails

Not good business practice to take off and close shop completely. Especially with a online or mail order business.

    We are REALLY NEWBE'S

Hey, now we're getting somewhere. That old saying about "a picture being worth a thousand words" really applies. Since you are using foam, forget about any nailing. Adhesive is your option. Is there any thin plastic surface over the foam? If so, remove it or the adhesive won't stick. Do you...

    We are REALLY NEWBE'S

The rail joiners slide over the lower portion of the rail, the two thin flanges that stick out laterally. Push them on carefully so that about 1/2 of the length is on one piece of track. line up the next section of track and push it onto the other half of the rail joiner, making sure that both...

    We are REALLY NEWBE'S

If you have sectional track, you will not need cork roadbed unless you have some really old brass track without the molded plastic roadbed. Did you buy just the track or a complete train set? Your curve radius will be determined by the track that you have. Do you know what brand of track you...

    VERY odd question of mine

There's a line in the song "Ridin' on The City of New Orleans" that goes "passengers will please refrain.........." (from using the lavatory while the train is standing in the station) for obvious reasons. this was a standard call by the conductor in the old days before holding tanks.

    We are REALLY NEWBE'S

Hello again: I will suggest a search ( top right of the forum) for "track planning" or "laying track". There are threads by the dozen dealing with your subject. Lots of them with photo's. Take your time. I know that there is that initial desire to get a train running, especially if you have...

    We are REALLY NEWBE'S

Hello and welcome. An idea of what you have in mind for your empire would be great. Can you provide a sketch or diagram based on your 4 X8 table? If you haven't gotten to that stage yet, could I suggest a trip to your local hobby shop (LHS). There are many books of 4X8 layout plans. I'm...

    when to solder?

I still think you should take some time to at least do some practice soldering. Just my opinion. You know what an opinion is worth.
