    HO Scale Operational Hi-Rail

If you put the motor in the cab/under the hood (still can't believe that little silver dot is the motor...!), then why not make it front wheel drive? And for the record, I don't think it looks funny... I think it looks like this: http://www.sfrmeo.ca/cprm260.html It's a 1947 Caddie...

    Ever sell your layout?

I have only sold one, partly complete 4x8 table top. The buyer was found through a local club. I got about 50% of the "sticker value" I had in it, and pretty much nothing for the labour invested. But it suited me to move it out, rather than salvage and reuse. And the buyer was happy too. Andrew

    DC test track on DCC

Depending on whether the new loco is DCC ready (which can mean different things sometimes...!), this may or may not work. It sounds like a good way to get around actually installing the decoder to determine performance. But it is not really running a DC loco on DC to see performance. It is more...

    CNR 0-4-0 Steam Switchers?

Way down at the bottom of this page: http://cnlines.ca/CNcyclopedia/loco/cnsteam.php there appears to be a listing for one with a tender, and one a tank engine, if I am reading it correctly. EDIT - And here is the tank: http://cnlines.ca/CNcyclopedia/loco/diagrams/x-6-a.jpg...

    how far shoud they be

Zach, There's lots of info on bus wires and feeders - try a search. But the short answer is for the best reliability, put a set of feeders to every piece of track. If you are using flex, that usually means one pair every three feet. Your feeders can be the 22 ga wire, but your bus...

    N scale to HO

Excellent perspective Fred. Thanks for the "counter balance". The Digitrax instructions are a bit sparse. Andrew

    corrugated iron sheet

Maybe if the CIC has some weight data, you could work out what a panel of each size weighs and judge whether that's reasonable for manual labour to handle...? The Library of Congress plans & blueprints (link in Plans & Blueprints forum) might have some details aw well... Andrew

    N scale to HO

You will likely need to measure the amps drawn under stall, not just under "flat out" conditions. At least this is what my Digitrax decoders call for. You need to run the loco as David describes, but push down so the wheels (momentarily!) stop turning. This is when the loco draws the most power...

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

You are very brave to attempt this! Great first effort. Undoubtedly the good doctor's advice will help improve it. I am greatful that I waited to start mine until he had weighed in, so thanks for braving the waters Rob! ;) :D Andrew

    The Holman Horror

What was the stated goal of all those rollers (i.e what was the pitch given to suckers, I mean "investors" ;))? Andrew

    Two locos one one decoder

The only issue to be aware of is whether the two motors together exceed the decoder's rating. If you pull more amps than the decoder allows, you'll let the smoke out... ;) Let us know how it goes! Andrew

Converting AHM Pacific into CNR Pacific--PIX NOW POSTED

Sounds like you're making great headway...! Do you still need the article? ;) :D One conversion you might want to consider is an all-weather cab - many pacifics had them. If you have any of Ian Wilson's books, you will see that this once crack passenger engine (state of the art in early...

    Are people crazy or What??!!

Yes, that seems a bit ridiculous to pay that much... However, I can think of a number of factors that might lead one to do so... - Walthers delivery dates are not always reliable - They don't realise that the part is still made - Money is no object - They need the part now (I mean NOW!) -...

    DS64+Zephyr+Loconet???

MarcO, I do not know the specific answer to your question, but will suggest that you try the Digitrax Yahoo group if you can't get an answer here. A number of the DCC/Digitrax gurus from my local club provide answers there. Andrew

    MAJOR structure re-model. (I'm back.)

Nice work... And I agree that the big blank wall is crying out for a painted sign of some sort. The only things I would add... Roof weathering Eavestrough/downspout across the back Some chipped stucco revealing the brick underneath (assuming that you intend this to be a brick building...
