Track planning using prototype track charts?

I have a CNR maintenance of way book from the 1930s that lists these kinds of things. They also show how to stack spare ties and store lengths of rail, among other details. I would say I use these as a guide, but I do not (cannot?) stick to them because of the space required to do it true to...

    questions

Vett, Welcome! You'll notice that Zealot also has an R/C component too...! To answer your questions - In HO, the standard answer to the tightest turn question is 18" radius. You'd therefore need about 40" to form a loop. The radius is measured to the centre of the track, so you need to...

    Floquil Weathering Paint Pens?

I cannot comment on the Floquil pens, btu I have used a Testors paint pen for track. It's a rusty sort of brown with a "fine" tip. While the colour is good, the "fine" tip is not fine enough, and I find that I get a little too much excess paint on the plastic "spikes". This can be hidden...

Building and Kitbashing a Walthers Cornerstone Refinery

While you can fill gaps with multiple layers of "thin" CA set quickly by using an accelerator, there is "true" gap filling CA that has a thicker formulation. Accelerator is good for it too, since it is has a longer cure time in my experience. Another stand-by for filling gaps, especially air...

    Shelf layout lighting

You might also consider bringing the lights down closer to the shelf. You might need more that way, but could get away with the singles, as less light will be "lost" to the room. One other advantage of doing this is that you can create another shelf above the lights that might be useful. Andrew

    Ho scale water tower

Thanks for the kind words Ernie. There were no plans... I got a few pictures from here on The Gauge, especially for the waterspout. But generally, the tower was a visual copy of the Atlas one, for which there are many pictures. It was my first serious attempt at a scratch build. I did it...

    Ho scale water tower

Hi Ernie, I made this one: http://www.zealot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99201&highlight=water+tower by eye as my first scratch-build. It roughly follows the ubiquitous Atlas model, with the core of the tower made from a sturdy cardboard ribbon spool. Since the prototype ones varied...
