    Going through changes...

Well, I had HO... ...when I belonged to a club. Dad had HO and brought us up on it. Dad bought N when it was in it's infancy. We liked to see real trains. Like, train-trains- long trains. In N you have routes instead of loops. It was too appealing to be bothered with "the details" afforded in...

    Weathering Track?

A thought... ...that often rattles around in my head... The word homogenous- uniform colors that identify the terrain. The dust that would rise and settle from the trains rolling thru. Contrast- the dark, old rust on rails buried in sidings where corrosives have washed into or pools of...

    Anybody got any great ideas?

Here's a shot of a... ...stress relieve oven that's outside the building for the small stuff. You can see the standard gauge rails that lead in- there's a steel cart pushed in and out (forklift). On the cart (behind the closed swing gate) are a few large gears that have been stress relieved and...

    Anybody got any great ideas?

I'd be partial to a heat treating company. It's one of the industries that have "heavy" traffic. Gons/flats with material coming in- boxes moving product out- older building utilized because it wouldn't matter as far as appearance. I have to visit one of my vendors occasionally- neat stuff...

    Why So Many Diesels?

I don't think... ...anyone touched on the fact that there just might be a generational issue. I belonged to a club for a short while. The "old-timers" had steam and of course everyone likes a steam locomotive but as the old-timers left the group because of aging so did the steam. The steam that...

    when to solder?

I say- go ahead and melt ties, burn a hole or 5- etc. It builds character. Experience is the next best thing to "I told you so"! Soldering "may" only be required. How big is this layout you're building? I think it was 40' X 20'?

    so excited

Let the thin air take you over the top! Just remember- Dynamic Brakes only help- what you need is high beams, horns and a camera. A bit of exhuberance is called for as well. Roll 'em!

    Just curious????

Don't get fooled by the... ...feathers. Seems you need to make a choice. Close enough, not. The plastic airplane/ship model producers won't build new molds for any scale- they already have the mold and they sell. Heck, I still see the same kits on the shelves since I was kid. That's all...

    trains in movies

The Silver Streak - 1934 (The original.) Lots of The Silver Streak (Zephyr) racing steam trains. An old serial type plot- racing an iron lung to a construction site because the someone gets hurt (I believe the Grand Cooley Dam). Fascinating archival footage of concrete pourings, steam cranes-...

    The Completed Storage Tank

I am taking notes... ...because I love tank cars. There's a small processing facility near me and I usta get to watch them switch cars at lunchtime (when I worked 50 yards from the small yard in Lansdale, PA). I always thought it was very nice of the railroad that they should switch out the...

    Jan 4th Weekly Photo Fun

Yup, I want to model a N-Scale version if... ...I can't buy one. I shot a lot of details but just thought I'd post a couple here. I was looking at all the great pics thinking to myself, "Poop, I never have time for- hey, wait a minute. I just stopped the other day and took some pics when I was...

    Gift for myself..The Raiload Press

They say... ...when ya go gift buying- buy as if you were buying for yourself. Uh, Ralph, I think you took it a little too far. In this case, it's the right direction.:thumb: Very Merry to ya. Mark
