    Nmra

N is popular. N modules are popular. NTraK came back to us to get a good copy of the plans for their Standard layout. I was delighted to help them out. For an organization that is supposed to be against N scalers, we certainly have a lot of them. :-) I personally don't know what happened in...

    Nmra

Whoeeewww!! I wouldn't dream of trying to answer that last. All I saw there was condemnation. I'm in the NMRA to support the Standards process and for the camaraderie that I have found in my division. I'll let others make up their own mind. You can take a look at: Member Benefits...

    NMRA Beginner Pages

For those new to the hobby or now getting deeper into it, I would like to suggest that in addition to all of the great information found here, a trip to the NMRA web site Beginner Pages at: http://www.nmra.org/beginner/ may be beneficial. There is a large amount of information there that can...

    Athearn Expertise Needed

When I had my Train Shop in the 80s, I only ordered the Athearn Fs with the Super Weight. That's the full length weight shown on the diagram. They also offered the unit with two small weights as you describe, but for a couple of dollars more, I sold a unit that could pull the wallpaper off of...

    CR Dinosaurs at Work

As some of you are aware, I have created a 'Big Four Memories' (NYC) photo page http://madisonrails.railfan.net/big4memories1.html for my Railroads of Madison County web site where I am putting photos of the Big Four that don't fit into the lines that ran through Madison County. (Contributions...

    National Model Railroad Month

Not if you want to sell merchandise and magazines for Christmas. The idea is to introduce the hobby just while merchandise is hitting the shelves. Of course, now, hardware stores, Woolworths, Sears, Wards and other various department stores no longer carry much in the way, if anything, of train...

    National Model Railroad Month

November 1st starts National Model RR Month (U.S. - Canada). I received this message today and decided to share my answer with the group. On Thu, 30 Oct 2003 23:29:18 EST <Barb> writes: > It is my understanding that November is model railroad month. > Do you have a web site where I...

    Wrecks & Derailments, Part 2

No. Last I heard, it was still listed as active, but I saw a photo of it two years ago showing the rails actually pulled apart from lack of maintenance. Addendum: Madison Indiana is a long way from Madison County Indiana, about 175 miles or so. Madison Hill is down by the Ohio River whereas...

    Beech Grove Shops

Even before there was Amtrak, before there was CR or PC, there were the Beech Grove Shops... I have just put up four photos of the Big Four Beech Grove Shops under construction 1904/5 and several more made in 1930 of various work groups in front of their shop. These and more are on the new...

    Tightest radius for HO

Atlas still makes 15 inch radius track. I really wouldn't want to take flex tighter than that because the ties will start to skew and you'll lose gauge. Now, that said, you can always hand lay just about any radius you want if you use a 3 point track gauge in construction.

Will the real price please stand up?

Let's see, the dealer paid about $85.00 for the unit and he's robbing you if he prices it at retail. He has brick and mortar expenses to account for... Forget it. You'll never understand and your dealer will go under selling you your bottle of paint, and you'll wonder why. He can never...

    Wrecks & Derailments, Part 2

I have just added part two of Maurice Lewman's 'Wrecks and Derailments' on the Big Four Michigan Division to the Memory Pages of the Railroads of Madison County (Indiana). Part two covers the Division north from South Anderson to Goshen Indiana. There are several PC wrecks in this part. Just...

    Wrecks, Part 1

After a long summer of staying busy with house remodeling, I have begun updating the RRofMadCty web site with photos and stories. I have just added the first part of Maurice Lewman's 'Wrecks and Derailments' on the Big Four Michigan Division to the Memory Pages. Part one covers the Division...

    Hoping for more ...

    >>1. How do you react when members of your local train club come dressed in striped Engineer Overalls and hat with all the little souvenier pins on it? This obviously upsets you. Why? Do you get uptight about the guy wearing the colors and number of his favorite team player? Of course you...

    CCC&StL Patches

Maurice Lewman came up with one of the old CCC&StL patches and I arranged to have them reproduced. There are only 97 available (Maurice and I already took one each) and we are giving one to Phyllis Pangburn, the first woman train dispatcher in the United States. Yep. she was Big Four! If you...

What do you think would have happened if the PRR had not Merged with the NYC?

The image is by Josh Moldover, but the paint scheme is mine. :-) This is what should have happened.
