    kato,atlas,life- like?

There lies the problem, I will not risk dumping money on either. They need to do more to improve their past reputation.

    kato,atlas,life- like?

Got to admit the ditchlights are a nice feature. Atlas should give it a try since they put working class lights on the H-15-44's and H-16-44's a nice feature to an otherwise mundane locomotive.

    kato,atlas,life- like?

A few years ago I would say Kato with Atlas 2nd. Atlas has come on strong the last few years with some nice running engines and now they are a close 2nd if not tied with Kato. I wouldn't waste my money on Lifelike, Bachman and especially Model Power, just total junk.

Remote contrl locos on U.P. Anaheim branch.

The problems with railroads is that they will continue to get away with the operations of those things in populated areas until there is a disaster.

Any good pics of your HO or N scale Layouts?

Just curious because I deal with OI on a pretty regular basis and I doubt the yard is the same as it was in the LV days. They eventually took NK Tower out of service a few years back and immediately ripped it down.

Any good pics of your HO or N scale Layouts?

Mark, Are you modeling the just the Receiving Yard at Oak Island or are you going all out to include the hump, 91 Bay and the departure and transfer yds?

Coming back to N guage. Help please?

I know Micro-Trains offers "lower profile" wheels that should work fine on code 55. They add these wheels in all of their new releases so you switch out the regular flange wheels with the lower profile wheels. I don't have this problem since I made my N-scale layout without code 55...

    CN On Strike

Maybe you will understand when you enter the workforce (hopefully after college). As we sit here today there are crews moving freight across North America. Most of them have probably already worked 70 plus hours this week and spend little time with their families. The money issue has...

I gotta agree with you Wayne. Sick time and vacations are also not by the good graces of the corporations.

    Unknown Track Device

I was unable to see the pic, but from the description it sounds like a derail. There are various types of derails from the flop over types to split rail derails to temporary portable derails. Where I work there are split rail derails used to prevent equipment from going into the drink when...

Xmas Tree Lights for buildings etc.

At Target for $4.99 I found an LED microlight set with 18 clear lights. It runs on 4 AA batteries for roughly 60 hours. They work fine and look good.....I have a small 2x4 N-scale layout and this set stretches just enough to light an Interlocking Tower, Passenger and Freight Depots, switchman's...

    Report on Railroad Employment

I don't know where 80,000 new employees will be going since all the railroads want is to slash it's workforce. NCCC Section 6 notices (the carriers wishlist) calls for one man road crews with crew sizes to be determined by individual railroads. This coupled with job losses from the remote...

    Is this normal.

It is quite normal, especially with older GE's.

    Some rare engines...

The NS has some pretty non standard cab configurations. I have run a couple of their engines in the past. The ones set up for longhood forward have the control stands on what would be the conductors side if the "F" was on the shorthood. Another strange one was a -9 widebody. All of the other...

is NS and BNSF trying to merge?

Pool Power We get a lot of different motors from various railroads in my neck of the woods on CSX. UP/BNSF/CP.....as far as the bNSf merger, that has been around since I hired out in 1997. UP-CSX was suppose to be the other merger. Lately though, I have heard that the only one that can pull off...

SCENIC AND RELAXED RR by Atlas

This layout was on the Atlas Catalog front page a few years back. When finished it looks quite nice.

SCENIC AND RELAXED RR by Atlas

I actually built something based on it with Kato unitrack. The exception being was I put a 90 degree crossing at grade where the main passes over itself. Just one of many variations built with Unitrack.

SCENIC AND RELAXED RR by Atlas

Yep......its a 3x6 ft n-scale layout by Atlas. You can find it on the Atlas website under track plans.

    train Length

I just got the Terrain for Trains delivered......comes out to about 10 square feet........a couple of GP-9's and about 12 or so 40' foot boxcars with a caboose looks to be about right......otherwise I feel your pain....but since I am doing this with the kids......that is all that matters to me.
