You can save substantial cash on either Kato or Atlas by ordering from 4nscale.com or from Nscalesupply.com (I find 4nscale slightly more reasonable) Big savings from what the suggested MSRP. Remember, you get what you pay for, if you don't mind nudging your engine to get it going then...

You made the classic noobie mistake. You bought Bachmann. I learned over a decade ago about Bachmann/Lifelike products and now I spend a little extra for quality products.

Can the radius handle the car? Smaller radius and long cars don't work well together.

Rapido couplers are a thing of the past. The knuckle type/MT couplers are now standard with the upper end models such as Atlas/Micro-Trains and Kato. Maybe someday Bachmann will join the rest of the model manufacturers in the 21st century

It sounds like one of the trains was occupying main track without authority.

I doubt it is that Atlas product that is the problem. Likelike and Botchmann have a long history of low end products.

Also as far as the NS goes, those GP38 locos have the control stands set up for running longhood forward.

There are still a few highnose GP38 engines in service. The ones I have seen are still owned by the NS but have been put into remote control yard service.

Check E-Bay. They surface from time to time, narrow your search down to N scale and the check what Kato products are available. Micro-Trains seems to have been releasing some CN Boxcars recently.

Looks like you can model two seperate railroads also, Diamonds are more common in the midwest. You could model the UP/BNSF in Nebraska, or the CNW/Milwaukee in Wisconsin with cornfield meets or model urban areas such as the Southside of Chicago which would allow you mix up your trains with both...

Don't buy a cheap set. In the long run you will regret it. Good quality locomotives from Kato or Atlas will go a long way. I run both Kato and Atlas engines with Micro-Train cars and barely ever have any major problems that can result from purchasing cheap stuff. Remember, you get what...
