Having finished the ATST build (see the 'guess whos back...' thread) im now ready to move on to its display, which will be a small diorama/vignette from RoTJ - the Endor fight. This is going to be made from various materials (hence this section) and feature terrain (and other things) as seen in the famous movie.
Ive already put the basic stand together - this is (from the bottom) an emulsion paint lid, black card for the drum, 3mm greyboard, 5mm black foamboard and more black card for the top base and edging that the ATST sits on. This is going to feature alot of different vegetation, trees/stumps etc to add to the scene plus some other 3D printed bits (to come yet) so sit back relax and watch the fun :BRAVO:

Annddddd we're off! (well ish) :biggrin:

Getting some of the elements together for the Endor forest base - ofc there will be alot more than whats shown, but i thought a rough idea of whats being used helps lol.
I boughts some resin 'blasted tree stumps' to give me a few options size wise for tree 'parts' as the foliage ranges from small to ridiculously huge. For some of the other 'tree' parts good old mother nature is the best guide and a while back myself and my partner went on a hunt for good branches and sticks to use for scenery, of which these few bits will probably make up the core bits. Also ive got some cork bark chunks from our local pet store that can be great for rocky surfaces. There will also be different types of modelling sand (coarse/fine) used, gaming terrain scenics like shrubs/plants/lichen and a mix of paper plants used for model diorama making. Ive got a good idea of the positions of the main elements to fit around the ATST so from here ill start getting these ready to put in place.

So some of the basic painting on the 'core' base elements down so far. The cork bark, large 'stick' upon it and larger chunks of cork bark were drilled and pinned then fixed in place with CA. The resin tree stumps were then set in position with CA before the base was given a go over with coarse and fine sand. This was all allowed to dry well then given a base coat of Vallejo black grey acrylic all over, again allowed to dry well. The ground work got its first base coats of browns - all Vallejo/Army painter paints of chocolate brown for a nice deep bottom coat followed by a mix of beige brown from about 75% up to about 25% (aka 75% Choc. brown/25% beige brown up to 25% choc. brown/75% beige brown) (this will be given a wash of brown acrylic ink later then highlighted) The cork bark(s) were given a go over with greys to simulate rocky surfaces (same treatment with Army Painter Necromancer Cloak/ Ash Grey) again these will be given a black wash later. The resin tree stumps got their turn with Vallejo Beige brown and Old Wood and again will have further washes/highlights later. Still a ton to do yet so watch this space :biggrin:

coming along.....still a ways to go yet
So the latest progress, once all the base painting was dry it was all given its washes/shades & highlights. After this had all dried i began adding the vegetation firstly to the ground area then moving up across the surfaces. Using reference i wanted to show this as Endor which is quite a lush forest world so ive added plenty of mosses, tufts and various lengths of flocks. Once this was all dry i added a layer of leaf litter, then a cpl of old 'logs' which were then 'mossed' up and left to dry. The next thing will be starting to add larger foliage (im still waiting on some in the post) but you can see where its going.

a few more, been adding the 'bracken' these are laser cut by Gamers Grass, about 20 in a pack, still more to go yet but hopefully its going in the right direction
