OpSec applies...

While at sea, aboard DDG 83 USS Howard, assigned to DESRON 15, 7th fleet, my son was granted early promotion, and was pinned in as an STG2. I doubt anyone can figure out where his ship was by the background of this picture, but it's still classified. I had to promise not to post this until his ship returned to Yokosuka.
Still having my security clearance is nice sometimes, cause I know the whole story. Not being able to tell it sucks.

Congratulations to STG2 Wallace, Ryan M

The Arleigh Burke-class destroyer is one bad ass ship!! That's a fighting ship, and he is where the valiant men go. Congratulations to you and your son, and many Thanks for your families service. ;)

Congratulations!

I'm just curious, what does STG2 mean?
The USN uses letter codes for rates among trained enlisted men and women. MM = Machinist Mate, NPT = Nuclear Power Technician, and STG = Sonar Technician, Guided. The rates are in descending order, STG3 = E-4, STG2 = E-5, STG1 = E-6, and my rate was CSTG, which was E-7

If you take into consideration that E=mc² you have one fine crew!;)

Kidding aside, thank you very much for the info. :)

USS Howard is a Flight IIA Arliegh Burke. She was built as a Flight II, then spent 18 months in Long Beach being upgraded, my sone was assigned to her when she moved from Long Beach Dry Dock down to San Diego Fleet yard.

NAVSEA restarted the DDX program, not the Zumwalt class, but the whole, research and design program.
