that is a good idea on the sticky mat! that will hold the foam still while I cut.
??? what sticky mat?? If you use a sticky mat you just might rip the outer skin off!
It depends on the actual part..but I almost always tend to hold the blade still only drawing it an inch or so as I TURN the foam-core or any curved paper cut...and real slow! I rarely hold the card still and try to draw the knife down the whole cut...

I think he might have misunderstood my mention of a self healing cutting mat. it's not sticky, unless I spill coffee of glue on it.

Just been scribing in those parts on the black foam board. Used a ballpoint pen and identified each piece on the BFB with it. Taking a whack at Ultraman Hayatta space jet enlargement. I couldn't sleep last night. So that long V piece is about 11 inches long.

Happy Ultraman day!!!

100_1848.JPG

I'm going with Hayatta's jet --white nose cone-paper, windows.... blue aft thruster. Romulan bird of prey tos-- green marbles, yellow ecandle portholes-red hyperplasma torpedo. Spindrift 24''Gary Pilsworth author, my modifications-- red twinkler leds aft thruster [ hopefully with micro computer fan and sound to simulate beta wave shunt from ''Manhunt''] red led teardrops flashing in unison and amber dome led, yellow windows.

I now have the self healing cutting mat and a very sharp pizza cutter type fabric blade. I need to clear my hobby table, so I can start on the black foam board inner supports for the saucer of Ron Caudillo's recolor enlarged 1701 tos.

Well, yet again I have had to face the fact that the small details become huge problems anytime you enlarge a model. I should have used poster paper with stencils from 8x11'' prints, to stop the warps and dents. also the aft thruster assembly needs an entire hard frame added to it at this size. Learning the scratch building skills for foam board and matte' board that I was working for tho. Like an itch,...i just keep on scratchin'! That's a joke for model kit bashers and builders.

I can go even bigger!!! but I don't have any kind of pics or drawings of one for that. In the show it mostly just shows Hayatta talking into a mic and some kind of steering wheel.

Well before I melt from the heat, here is some work pics. I modified GP's Spindrift ,21 inches nose to tail. I made the tail section 1 piece, rounded the hull seam, threw in a viewport divider, made it taller and steeper on the dorsal hull. Pulled in the tear drops and rescreened those, I really learned from his model,[[ and extremely grateful for his work ]] I'm almost ready to draw my own. Just have to work out the linear angles of the bottom hull.

I'm still having problems cutting the foam board supports for Ron's large 1701Tos recolor. The blades simply aren't sharp enough or I dont have the skill to use them. I will try again tomorrow with an Exacto knife.

Well here is my first try,
I had to use the pocket knife to cut a groove around the circle,
then use the exacto saw [the exacto blade with the plastic pressure grasper broke on the first try.]
Then i cut the edges roughly with the clippers, not perfect but it will work for a support piece.

I also found these neat shark PMs and perhaps a UFO moonbase hex-globe? I would have to snip it but I might try.
