Castle D Modelworks

I've been building model kits for 40+ years and have built from every category over that time span. I remember building the BIG U.S.S. Enterprise aircraft carrier as a teenager. Also, the big 1/8 scale IROC Z28, Corvette Sting Ray, Mercedes Gullwing and Golden T Street Rod kits that came with that little package of Turtle Wax to polish the bodies with.

Now, due to space restrictions I build mainly 1/24 & 1/25 cars including American muscle, Tom Daniel designs, and Tamiya and Revell Germany DTM and GT series with a Ferrari or Lamborghini thrown in to break up the V-8 builds. All of my car bodies are painted with Testors spray and on occasion Krylon Fusion but the Krylon takes more work to get a nice, glossy finish. Everything else is painted by hand using Testors and Tamiya paints.

Also, due to space restrictions, I build 1/144 aircraft because I can paint them by hand and get a good result. The only drawback is that some parts are tiny and fragile and do not cooperate with large fingers. I have a Revell C-17A in 1/144 and a handful of 1/72 aircraft waiting to be built.

The USN "Sundowners" and "Jolly Rogers" are my favorites aircraft markings to build.

I mostly build straight from the box, detailing only with painting. This way is the most fun for me. I used to spend a lot of time super detailing with wire, solder, Verlinden detail sets and photo-etched parts but no longer have the patience to do so.

I welcome and questions and/or critiques because I feel they might help me be a better builder.
