Wargaming rules?

What games do you folks play?

Outside of the 'standard' gothic SF rules (WH40K) I've gotten into Gruntz for 15mm miniatures.

I plan on experimenting with an independent publishers rules called "Renegade Scout" from Nordic Weasel Games (on Wargame Vault). The author created a 'retro-clone' of "Rouge Trader" (WH40K 1st edition). Mechanics allow for characters to be converted pretty readily, while offering some non-gothic additional aliens, creatures, and completely different (and easier) vehicle rules.

Then there is the Osprey games, which have proven quite fun. One 'dark horse' game from Osprey has been 'Gaslands' a game in which you use templates to move Hot Wheel/Matchbox cars on a race track in a Car Wars/Death Race inspired post-apoc world. Best beer and pretzels game, and easiest to get into...

I've played D&D for over half my life, tried WarHammer and 40K but only liked WarHammer Quest

Have you tried some of the skirmish like Mordheim (WH:Fantasy) or Killteam/Necromunda/Gorkamorka (WH40K)? Kinda a neat mix of the fringe of wargame, and edge of RPG... Also on the fantasy side would be Frostgrave (D20 based skirmish).

on my schedule and budget, I'm lucky to play D&D, it's hard to put a group together to play...

@micahrogers ; What game is that?

I used to play D&D, and really enjoyed a 5 book set called Blood Sword. It was a bit more linear than D&D but allowed up to 4 players or you could control the entire party yourself, or go solo with one character.

At some point I want to convert it to an online version similar to what has been done with the Lone Wolf series (Which is also pretty darn good...)

@Cybergrinder : WarHammer Quest is a pseudo Role Playing Game based on Warhammer rules, the players start with a pregen character, and "level" up as you progress deeper into the dungeon, I think Silver Tower is the newest version of it.

Typically, 9/10ths of hobby time (which encompasses a tiny fraction of my life anyway) involves building and painting. The other 10th is reading rules and playing the games. Something I have not done in months... Well, okay, I've also got four boys, three are old enough to beg for games. I've got one sorta started on the wargaming, and a couple interested as long as its board games...

So, this thread is about those rare occasions where we can find a player of the same games!

You may also looking into Descent from Fantasy Flight Games (on it's second edition), it is a worthy modern successor of the "quest" style dungeon crawlers. At the very least, the tile sets are fun, and there is a Star Wars version called Imperial Assault running the same 'engine' if you will. They certainly border three game format realms in the form of 'skirmish wargame' with RPG elements in a board game format...

Skyrim?! About all I really play on the computer these days...
Sky Rim Special Edition... using ENB shaders and weather and lighting enhancements... and a few mods downloaded the rest personal hacks/additions and characters. I like just about anything that is like Skyrim. Sniper Ghost Warrior, Fallout (all but the online one), Dishonored 1&2, Watchdogs, Dragonage Inquisition, you get the idea!
