I recently bought at a train flea a lovely kit of 'sawmill details'. The box is full of many sealed bags of boiler, motor, saw, etc parts. Unfortunetley there are no instructions. This kit was produced by Paige Enterprises of Wilmington DE. It is a Century Limited Kit #2201. My search of the web has not enabled me to acquire these instructions. Can any of you help?
Thx.

Eric, sorry, I didn't find much either, but brasstrains.ca (I am not affiliated or compensated) has several items in their "Buildings" list by Paige Ent. (looks like logging stuff) - maybe they can give you a steer in the right direction ? Best of luck - sounds like a neat find. More info, maybe help - Walthers Collection has instruction sheets for many manufacturers available through...http://www.nmra.org/library/walthers.html ...Hope this helps. Bob C.

This goes back to the 1970's Paige enterprises was a fly by the night operation. The proprietor did not produce his own masters, what he did was to rip off other folks work, and sold pirated copies. what you have is probably a big bag of castings that are unauthorized copies of some other companies stuff.

The most likely candidate for the original design of this stuff is the SS limited backwoods sawmill. Dr tom (Dr. G.) has one of these built up I'll see if he can photograph the sawmill layout, so you can see if it is indeed the source of the design, and how it is intended to be set up.

Hi Bill and Eric,

I think this is the sawmill Bill is referring to on my old C&S RR logging show. If we are in the ball park, this model still resides on a diorama I set up. I can take detailed pictures if that would be helpful.

Instructionless kit

Fellas,

You have all been quite helpful. It does seem to be VERY similar to Doc Toms photos alright. Without putting you to further trouble I shall check both the Walthers library and the NMRA to see if they have instructions suitable. It really was a good find because when I say lots of detail parts I am not kidding. Plus they were well produced and very nicely formed. I hope they were not pirated though!! If I can't get some related instructions I shall be back requesting a few more detailed pics. Thanks again guys.

Eric,

Dr Tom pointed out to me off list that that is a fine scale miniatures (FSM) sawmill kit, and not a SS limited kit. (Tom is too polite to point out my error in public.) SS limited kits are still available, but the FSM kits were all limited editions, and un built kits go for many $$. some ss limited kits have lots of details, but not as many as the FSM kits.

I have a FSM 2 stall engine house on my DG, CC, & W RR. I worked for a Model Railroader doing construction work after my senior year in high school. After pulling huge amounts of overtime, I showed him a plan I had for a switching layout. He said " You need to get that FSM engine house @ lenox toy and hobby to go right there, It will fit there, and look good, and after that paycheck you can afford it. the box for one of those kits weighs about two and a half pounds.

So search for plans for a FSM sawmill.

Hi Eric,

Bill is correct that is an FSM kit. Some of the modelers on Railroad Lines Forums in the Craftsman section save old plans and could maybe send you a copy.

Bill,

I have not had great success in acquiring the plans. However, I also don't really need a sawmill per see on my layout. I am expending the layout to include more heavy industry and will very likely use these components as nice detail parts in and around my planned scrap yard or metal fabrication plant. Regardless, thanks for your earlier assistance. I am presently busy as a beaver building kits for the new Algoma and Rideau.

I have just been notified that a Ralph Jacobson just replied to my original query but for some reason am unable to see it on the forum. Regardless Ralph, the problem has been resolved but thanks for your efforts and offer.
