As awesome as those things are, you have NO IDEA how annoying they are for marine navigation, haha! So long as they stay close to the water, they're considered to be vessels (albeit a special kind with a whole set of rules regarding them)...very fast and dangerous vessels...

WRONG WRONG WONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

POST FACTS HERE OR YOUR POST WILL BE DELETED!!!

These "ships" can hope 200' feet into the air, their danger to the marine community lies in ignorance, (on both parts) n how to operate them safely. They are a proven technology and go places ship would never venture, churn no water, and are impervious to torpedoes and mines! hey are not dangerous, are extremely steady, and in fact, because of their speed, can get to ports quicker, and do not have to worry about ice. They can also landing great sea states, and offer safe respite till rescued, in the event of an engine failure. They would open Alaska up, and service the people there greatly as their fuel efficienty is 75% greater than ships carrying the same weight cargo!!:)

It is the Politics of "The Jones Act" which keep them from being developed here. Silly Politics, and we, as a nation, suffer. Sorry, but you are just plain wrong on this. This ship at speed could "Hop" over any ship in it's path, yet it could turn even easier!! I have been studying these for 0ver 20 years, and have the proof to show it.

You can buy and build this, depending on your skills, for not very much!! Why stay close to the water when you can flu over a break water or small island and continue on path?

My knowledge on these is vast, you have much, very much to learn.

Whoa there! I was just trying to make light conversation bud! 'sides, all I was saying was that it is kinda difficult to navigate a ship around WIGs, not to mention the additional navigational rules you have to study as a result.

Which is not to say that I'm railing on WIGs, either. They're undeniably awesome! But just, y'know, from an operational perspective, they're kinda annoying :p

As for the Jones Act, while there are some parts which may stifle progress in certain areas, it is ultimately the one thing keeping our Merchant Marine afloat (literally and figuratively), for without our country's Merchant Navy, we'd be at a significant strategic and economic disadvantage on the global stage.

I didn't mean you. There is a group of people that have their head uo their butts about these. You don't navigate around them, they navigate around you as they are on average 5 to 10 times faster. The ESKA Ekranoplan, with 63 horsepower can do kinetic hopes of 350 feet and come down gently, never touching the surface it's over.

I also do agree about the Jones Act, but it must be modernized to allow American Shipbuilders to modernize our aging fleet. Why have a Merchant Navy traveling at 18 knots when they could be traveling at 600 knots? I know a lot about these, the physics, and am quite sure i could fly one, as I have flown over many a river in a Piper Warrior in ground effect. Remember, there are different classes and some go no more than 4 inches above the other, while others go half their wingspan, while the biggest can fly normally.
Read up a bit and maybe you can catch up to me. The models I make actually fly. :)
