As some may have already known UHU02 has taken one of his older models and started to revise it: The drone from "Silent Running". But he is not just revamping his classic model but adding two more patterns for the other drones as well. But instead of tackling them one by one UHU02 is building ALL THREE of them at the same time!

And here are the first build pics:

The original "Battlestar Galactica" TV show is in syndication right now in Germany. They are broadcasting the German BluRay version which is different from the US BluRay. The image is not cropped, for example. They made one edit though in the pilot movie: When Apollo and Zack have launched and are flying towards the camera you can see a few Cylon Raiders on pursuit in the last few frames. The German version omitted this by slightly zooming in into the picture. It is a very careful edit but a die-hard fan knows that there used to be Cylon Raiders in that shot.

Well then. Now hear THIS:

Two weeks ago "The Magnificent Warriors" was shown again. If you believe it or not there was another edit of the shot showing the interior of the Agroship (the one with the birds flying, right before the explosion). This time the frame was zoomed out a bit and right before the ship blows up you see Bruce Dern walking into the frame from the left! I have never noticed this before. So you can say that Bruce Dern survived "Silent Running" - but died in the destruction of the Agroship in "Galactica"!

Fortunately I recorded that moment by accident because it was shown right after "Dark Matter" which I plan to binge-watch once I have recorded all eps of season 3 (which starts next week). :)

The raised and recessed panels and the overall detailing make the drones very realistic.

It seems that UHU uses coloured frames around the pictures to show which are unique for the respective model. The pictures without the frames may be the ones containing equal build steps which refer to all models. I may be mistaken but it could make sense. :)

Ha! So you are saying that they DID rip off the Valley Forge from "Silent Running"? Too cool!

They used stock footage of the "Valley Forge" ships and "sold them as" the agroships of the Galactican fleet. That was cheap (no need to build and shoot new models), the plates were of very high quality (because they were produced almost the same way the Galactica models were, although less advanced) and they were created / supervised by Doug Trumbull who was John Dykstra's teacher and mentor. At least three of the VFX artists (John, Wayne Smith & Bill Shourt) worked on both shows which means that a similar quality was reached which led to an almost seamless blend of the shots.

I watched it yesterday, the documentary on the teenager amputees, putting on the Huey Duey and Louie costumes. It's quite fascinating, and shows why they robots were so anthropomorphic. The suits weight only 25 lbs. I cannot find it for the life of me now! Aaaargh!! ;)
