How is most of the fold lines being unmarked supposed to improve this kit? It's fussy enough with them marked and that seems to be the only notable change. If there's more to it, a detailed breakdown would be appreciated.

Granted, both Paragon's and Jaybat's model templates are rather simple, in design. With that being said, at the time that Jaybats made those model templates, there was not much in the way of good orthographics and reference material in order to make a more detailed template, he did the best with what he had at the time. Paragon attempted to improve this template with the orthographics and reference material that he had. So, instead of insulting their work, how about you make a template of the Viper MK-VII that is to your standards.

I'm sorry for having been brusque in that first comment. That was not a good way to express my thoughts.

Mainly, I was just confused. The overview tab gives little detail about what Paragon changed with the redesign (and also lacks comparison photos; the only image it's got is of the Coxxon model Jay exploded the kit from). And at the time of that post, the only change I had been able to see was that Paragon had made separate-image copies of each page that removed most of the fold lines (something that from my personal experience building the original did not seem like a good idea; granted the overview did say "cleaned up the fold lines" but that could have meant fixing instances of folds being marked as the wrong type or being misplaced). I did notice after a further look that the the lower engines had been cleaned up compared to originally having patches of the Viper's body texture, but I haven't spotted anything else (the nameplate is just as fuzzy as ever, for instance).

Are there any other changes I missed?

I honestly think Jaybats' model is fine in most respects; main changes I'd want to make are some detail cleanup of my own as well as tweaking the wing shape.

I wholeheartedly understand where you are point about the model as a whole. To my knowledge, no one has remade this model. So, Unfortunately, there is only one person that is designing BSG related models (that person is @Revell-Fan, and currently, he has many projects in the queue. I am not certain if this is one of them, though.).

As for the tabs that Jay puts on his model, they can be a bit confusing (and sometimes problematic to use). I would suggest cutting off the tabs and use strips to connect the parts. Doing this will give you a much better finished product as a whole (I also recommend this technique for all models that you make).

If you are interested in designing, there are many very good designers on this forum, who would be willing to help you. I would suggest reaching to them through private message and talk to them about seeing what they might be able to help you with.

I wish you the very best of luck with your endeavours.

Yo, I'm here! :)

Obviously the base model was the Viper Mk VII from the BSG shippack. The JayBats model is a simplified version of said shippack model, just like the Raptor. My plan is to unfold the original which has better graphics and overall smoother shapes, add an interior and a landing gear. However, atm I don't see this happen anytime soon. I just have too many projects which need to be finished first. So if anyone is able to give it a shot, please feel free to go ahead and join us. But be warned, I only know SketchUp, Pepakura and CorelDraw, so if you use other programs I cannot assist you with those. :)

To be clear, I don't think Jay's model is bad. Like I said at the end of my last post, it's fine in most respects. But I don't think that trying to fold the fuselage (in particular) without the help of guide lines would be a good time, and that was the only change I could spot at first on Paragon's tweaked version (the overview tab could use some comparison photos).

As for the tabs, I definitely agree that there are some places where you'd be better off using a connector strip instead and not just on this. Places where the tabs are too small for what they're trying to join because the way they ended up mostly buried by the neighboring bit of the texture.

It can't help that there's a major issue with adding an interior to a papercraft Mark VII anyway: the canopy. The Mark VII's canopy glass is a single, rounded piece. You'd have to find something readily available that the right shape (or close enough) can be cut from at the right size. That being said, I'll try to keep my eye out for such.

Vacforming is the best option. ;)

As long as you have the CG model you can add an interior very easily. You will just have to adapt the formers, again, very easy to do. :)
