Those LaGrange points aren't doing a damned thing and need to be "occupied", and it should be "U.S.", and the others who wish to share, that way we can keep them open to all the civilized people, (whatever that means). :)

+1 to that. My 'creation' plans to take advantage of that idea, and Alfonso's Models fit the bill perfectly. Cygnus, ATV/MTV, Dragon 1 & 2, ISS, MIR... there's a Model for everything I'm formulating in the ol' brain.

EDIT: A tech question... would RTG's be feasible (or for that matter, reasonable/practical) for a deep space journey to Mars/ L1/L2 instead of using Solar/Thermal Panels for electrical generation?

RTG's give a lot of energy over a long period, but not a lot of electricity, and the amount needed in the Kilo-Watt range, would require some kind of fission reactor, albeit, not a huge one. Once someone brings one into space, then others will start, and the nuclear-ization of space will begin. It does seem the only option though.

I wasn't aware that RTG's are lacking in the higher Electrical ranges; guess I'll stick with the old 'tried and true' method... Solar/Thermal Panels it is, then!

I think it will be Fission reactors. They can be disposed of easily once in space, just shoot it towards the Sun. It the launch that's the scary part.
