I agree with Steve: those pictures look fine to me, and I'll bet you'll get even better results when you get used to the camera.

I concur with the others, as I can see no reason why you should be disappointed by the pics you took with your new camera. Maybe you just have to get used to it a little more to get pics as you want them to be.

TFM no longer exists, its KCSM now. KCS has owned most of TFM for some time, and recently fully integrated it, as a subsidiary.
Sorry for not posting last night, i was unable to get on here for some reason, then when i did get on, i couldn't post:madd: , looks like things are working a little better tonight though:119: .

Thanks for the kind words and your thoughts on the NEW camera pics:smilie: , but i am sorry, you guys haven't changed my mind:toug: . out of 133 pics i took Saturday, only 2 of them was of the same acceptable quality that my last camera had:eeki::frowns: . Sadly the "getting used to it" excuse just ain't going to fly on this one, this is the third Sony i have had, all three are about the same camera, point -n- shoot, it just doesn't get easier then that.
i haven't tried any close up modeling shots with it yet, HOPEFULLY it will do good on that, but as far as outside shots go, i am VERY DISAPPOINTED:frowns: , but thats my fault, i didn't have the money to get as good a camera as the last one i had, so its just my problem. Unfortunately you folks wont be seeing as many proto shots though, 2 good pics out of 133 isn't a very good average:cry: .
My next post, I'll try some modeling shots and post my thoughts on how that went, cross your fingers

ON MY SIDE OF THE TRACKS...
Well, as you folks know, i was TOTALLY displeased with the outside shots that came from my NEW camera:frowns: , the ONLY hope i had left for it was if it took decent inside shots. Honestly, i was so ticked off by the quality of the outside shots that i haven't even touched the camera till today. i know this sounds totally ignorant on my part
ops: , but if that NEW camera didn't take decent inside shots, i was going to get the sledge hammer out and smash the darn thing into oblivion:eeki: , i COULDN'T be more serious, i was so frustrated:madd: .
i went to dads today to test the camera on poor light conditions, like i mentioned before, dads layout has plenty enough light to run on, it just isn't good at all for pics though. BEFORE i go further on with the camera, i do want to mention we had a good time running trains today:thumb: , dad ran a few of his CNW & Milwaukee Road engines, and i ran my Big Boy, one(of two)of my challengers, my Y-3, TM4 Trainmaster, and my GBW RS15:mrgreen: .
ANYWAYS, back to the matter at hand, i took 72 simple point and shoot shots, WITHOUT adjusting anything, and two out of 72 came out "kinda" OK, see the Y-3 pic below.
Tonight i adjusted the Macro settings on the camera and took some shots here at my house under pretty decent lighting, the results...SLAP FANTASTIC!:mrgreen: i don't know if it was Steve crossing his fingers, or though the camera is an inanimate object, perhaps it sensed if it didn't perform it was going to be smashed to oblivion tonight:eeki: , but some how, i was TOTALLY PLEASED with the macro shots:thumb: .
First i took some shots of my UP SD45T-2, they turned out FANTASTIC:mrgreen: , sadly though, in my haste in prep for the shots i didn't notice that the trucks weren't completely on the tracksops: , so you wont see those shots:119: .
Next i thought i would try some shots of a black engine, thats always a good color to test with, so i pulled out two of SEVERAL of my NEWLY ACQUIRED items i bought from my very good friend Wayne. below is a pic of two of Wayne's RS11's:worship: , notice how the black hasn't hid anything, you can clearly see ALL the details and weathering:mrgreen: .
CONCLUSION...
While i am still VERY DISPLEASED with the quality of the outside shots this camera takes:frowns: , i am VERY HAPPY with the macro shots that come from it:thumb: . I'll still post railfan shots from it, though i will more then likely complain about them:toug: , but at least the new inside shots i take will look pretty good, i think:winki: .
One thing to keep in mind, this camera takes pics 7megs big, and to put them on this forum i have to reduce them down to around 90kb:eeki: , that really takes the pic quality level down, but still, i am happy with the outcome of the inside shots:thumb: .

When I started reading your second paragraph, I thought that you were going to tell us that you went over to your Dad's to run trains and found your old camera! 
Deano, that Y-3 looks good rolling through that cut, and it's nice to see that the 602 made the trip intact. I think that your pictures turned out great, but then, I also thought that the ones taken outdoors were great, too.

Hello Everyone---Deano,I think your pictures are excellent---once you get more comfortable with the settings I'm sure all your photos will meet your high standards---I know when I take pictures,I eliminate a lot of shots that I feel aren't "just right"---that's one of the beauties of digital cameras,so keep taking lots of pictures and posting them,they're always a treat.Nice additions to your roster---I know how you feel in owning Doctor Wayne's treasures---as a matter of fact,I'm going to Wayne's place on tues. for a photo-shoot and to pick up some surplus equipment---I'll post my new "goodies" soon---I thought you might like to see your new RS 11s in service on the EG&E---Regards to your Dad---Nutbar

DeanO, I am in Mason City Iowa tonight, headed you way Tomorrow. Along this 11 hour drive and after I got here I managed to do some railfanning:mrgreen:
Although I missed most of the stuff I saw on the way here, a BNSF Stack train, UP yard in KC That had 5 trains stacked up ready to go with big 6 axle GE's on point. On this first pic I tried to shoot a BNSF grain train entering KC, with my cell phone, doing 80mph, in traffic.:cry:
The second one shows the reason you should not attempt to take pics under the conditions previously statedsign1
This last one is for DeanO, two UP SD's ready to roll out of the yard in town, just waiting on a crew:mrgreen:
Although the purpose of this trip is far from being under enjoyable conditions, I hope to get some more railfaning in before I go home. I plan to spend the day back down here on Thursday chasing some of these:thumb::thumb:

Honestly, it worked out great for me, my folks arnt doing to hot, so i couldn't take him there, and i live in a small apt. with my son, my place is fine, but my room, where i have my layout, and TONS of unfinished train stuff, well, it looks like a big junk yardops: , so i couldn't have Jim and his dad come hereops: . turns out they just had very little time to spend, so i met them up in Janesville, right in front of WSOR's roundhouse.
Jim and his dad are a couple of the nicest people you could possibly meet:smilie: . i wanted to give them the WSOR tour, then take them to UP's yard, but they only had time for the WSOR tour. i probably bored them to death with local rail historyops: , but i hope they had a good time:smilie: .
the WSOR engine yard was pretty bare today, they did have all three E units there though, so that was nice for those guys, and two of the old Milwaukee Road MP15AC's were out, so that was another plus:thumb: .
When it was time for us to leave, i headed to UP's yard, Jim, you didn't miss much, nothing on the north end of the yard, and the south end just had a TON of autoracks, not much else:cry: . i did notice all the MP15's lined up in the middle of the yard, but didn't see any of the GP40-2's, they must be out on a run

Interesting shots, my friend .Hi Deano---I have to agree with Kurt---even though I really like the UP's paint scheme,4010 sure looks good in her new outfit---Last night I visited my good friend Doctor Wayne---a visit with the Doc is always a treat as you can imagine---usually I bring some of my locomotives,but last night I just brought my camera as Wayne has a new CN steamer that I wanted to see as well as many, many others treasures including the spectacular scenery on the EG&E.We also experimented with some scan shots which will require more practise before any of those shots will be posted.As well,I picked up some more items as Wayne has decided to change the era of his EG&E to a time when diesels were non-existent---lucky for me (and yourself) as we have been able to add these beauties to our collection.Here's my latest additions---I felt like a kid at Christmas---Thanks Santa (Doctor Wayne)
