Your Welcome Deano. Question for you. How much did those SD40-2 cost? I've been thinking about getting a few for my railroad.

Deano, I went to the hobby shop in St. Catharines this morning to get some supplies. With some time to kill, I later stopped down at the station, and a quick glance down the tracks revealed an approaching train, so I got my camera ready.
Here's the lead loco:
And here's the trailing unit (unfortunately, the camera didn't recover fast enough for the second or fourth shots, which would've shown the whole unit). :cry:
That's the first U.P. loco that I've seen on the CN around here, although they used to be regular visitors on the CP, in nearby Hamilton.

hi deano---i haven't had a chance to respond lately,but i'm a big fan of this thread---always great stuff from yourself and your loyal fans :thumb::thumb::thumb:---your turbine looks great,i really like that tender as well---makes my 4100 look like it should be narrow gauge---that latest photo from Doctor Wayne opens up new possibilities for the Rock Valley Sub---I can just imagine seeing some CN units in your consists

Matt, the SD40-2's i last posted are all Athearns, they cost about $35-55.00 each, BEFORE i put sound in them:winki: . Honestly, my Kato SD40-2's are 100x better though:thumb: , they run around $75.00 each BEFORE i put sound in them.

A CN engine on the RVS huh...well, i hate to say it nutbar, but i think as far as engines go, the EG-E units will be as Canadian as it gets on the RVS:winki: . I gotta tell you though, i have been a regular on a few forums in the past, but it wasn't until i came HERE, that i admired & felt close enough to some of you, that i started collecting freight cars to remind me of you guys:thumb::mrgreen: , i mean i now have cars that i NEVER would have bought before:winki: . i would have to post 1/4 of my freight to cover all you guys i have done this to, but below i posted a pic of a covered hopper i bought to remind me of YOU and Wayne:mrgreen: , every time i see this car, it reminds me of you guys:winki: .(well, NOW my EG-E cars remind me of Wayne though:smilie: ) like i said, about 1/4 of my freight fleet were solely bought to remind me of my friends on here:winki::mrgreen: .

THANKS WAYNE!:mrgreen: you just confirmed what i thought it was:thumb: . i have a C40-8C(Dash-8 ), i am not an expert on these, but i believe they were the LAST of the conventional cab "Dash" units, before they went to the wide cabs, which also started with the 8's.

Nope. NS has a few Dash 9-40C's that were delivered after production of the Dash 8's ceased.

Thanks Deano for the information. I am going to have to get to the hobby shop sometime and get a few of them. They are one of my favorite diesels.
Here's a couple for you that I'm sure you'll love Deano! I was driving on Prince Crossing heading E into Winfield, IL when I saw this loco leading a train (a few years ago now). As soon as I saw the colors, I knew I had to take a picture of it, and ended up with these results, while driving about 45mph. I just recently re-discovered these pictures in my photobucket album and thought immediately to post them for you
I think the CNW logo is peeking out above the 0 and the 8, or something is anyways
Ok deano, here is my before pic. Actually it is the e-bay pic, I havn't taken any yet. Got it in the mail today, everything works. Obviously the handrails are gone and it needs traction tires, but thats ok. I will probably strip it and super detail it. I will have some questions later for you I am sure, but for now, what size batteries go in the compartment on the bottom? And is this for a horn and how is it supposed to work?

Up Y-3...finished!!!
Well, i have been real busy the last couple nights, i have been here, but have just been to busy modeling to post muchops: , sorry folks:smilie: .
I weathered my GP38, GP35 and a Milwaukee Road rib side caboose over the last couple nights:winki: , AND...FINISHED MY UP Y-3!!!:eeki::mrgreen: well, i still have to put the Tsunami sound decoder in it:119: , but thats easy with this one, about 20mins work:winki: .
What a learning experience it has been doing steam, this was my VERY FIRST weathering on a steamer, and honestly, i was scared to do itops: , steam is awful expensive to screw up on, but i think it turned out good enough for me:winki: .
my lighting isn't great, but i used four different blacks to do it, and to different grays. the down side was after i dull coated it half my grays vanished:eeki::frowns: , especially on the lower half, that represented road dust, oh well, i know to go a little heavier on the grays next time:winki: .
the hardest part of the whole job was doing the silver on the front of the boiler & the bottom half of the firebox, not fun to take those delicate parts off and put them back on:cry: , but i think it was worth it in the end:winki: .
Really, i had fun doing this though:thumb: , it was quite a challenge, and it taught me what to do & NOT to do on my next steamer job:winki: . i have some add-on parts coming for my Riverossi Cab Forward, i feel i am now ready to take that job on:twisted::mrgreen: .

Deano, great job :thumb::thumb::thumb:. Even if you think you can get better results on your next weatherig jobs, I think it looks fantastic. Oh man, I still remember how nervous I was before I started to weather my Mikado :mrgreen:, so I understand that you were scared. But the result makes it all worth while.:thumb:

Hey Deano, get your cerabellum ( or whatever it is called) working and answer a question I have. Is there rail passenger service from Chicago to Beloit/Janesville? I'm too old and stiff for the restraints of aircraft, and giving serious thought to rail travel later this year. Been a few years since I've seen my sister in Beloit. Amtrak goes to Chicago, but I don't know from there on.
