ZW transformer rebuild

I need to change the rollers in my Lionel ZW teansformer. Any tricks or problems I need to be aware of? Any help will be greatly appreciated, I have never worked on a transformer before.

I mean the rollers. There are four rollers, one for each voltage controller that roll accross the secondary field. They are made of carbon and wear flat spots on them. I need to replace them but I don't want to take the trans former apart if I don't have to.
