Hi,

I've made a start on painting the buildings for my layout as I can't do any baseboard construction until my shed's been extended.

I've done some painting including a way of trying to have the mortar still show through once I've painted the bricks on my models. Have a look and tell me what you think - both good and bad! ;)

While I'm not trying to attract people away from this forum as who in their right mind would want to - ;D - there is a forum on the site where you can voice your opinions on the project:-

Well, it seems like you've figured things out pretty much.

What I do is airbrush the wall with a mortar gray (white is too stark for me). Then I dip a flat-edged brush into the brick paint, and squeeze most of the paint off the brush onto a blotter. Then I very gently brush the tops of the bricks, going AGAINST the grain. It takes about 5 coats to get the color right. I also occasionally dip the brush in a little black or white and mix it with the brick to create the natural variation that you see in most weathered buildings.
