    Hi ALL!
I got a Conrail GP-7, G Scale Lionel train at a Tag Sale. I'm trying to run it on a Tyco HO transformer, it does....sort of. Runs slow, the light works, rail Sounds work too. So, what's the correct size Xfer?

    Thanks, Ted

Check out the MRC transformers...such as a Tech 2 or Tech 4. Large scale trains run on higher voltage than HO. 18V or 24V I think, versus 12V for HO. They are DC (unlike Marklin and older Lionel). In addition to the voltage determining the speed, a powerpack has to have enough umph (VA) to keep your motor turning. MRC ran an add on the back of Model Railroader, for seamingly decades, of 15 locomotives on a Tech 2, where your Tyco pack might start to smell funny with 3 locomotives on it.

I use either a Tech 4 220 or an MRC Control Master 20 for my LGB stuff.

    Hope that helps
