As this - and the other 3 in my folder below - were my first attempts at HO weathering, I used whatever I had laying around.

I won't go into the step-by-step process... but I faded the lettering and logo out first, and then put a very weak black wash over the whole car. The now-infamous rust is simply 3 layers of 20-year old Polly-S Dungeons & Dragons water based acryllics. Each reddish brown shade hand brushed over the previous one.

Finally, I used a couple of pastel chalks to add the very light faded tones here and there. There is no airbrushing on it at all.

I'm surprised no one has done a car this bizarre before. It may look excessively done - but I copied two prototype photos almost down to each streak! All I can suggest is get a cheap car and practice a little.
