I saw this pic posted on another forum that I frequent, devoted to VW buses, one of my other hobbies.

I've got tons of VW buses planned for my layout, and will have to convert one to model this prototype. What fun!

Here's similar rig, though not a VW:

Wonder what it was used for?

I like it! Looks like a fun project. Keep us up to date! That VW logo almost looks like the NY O&W logo.

On contraptions like that...did the vehicle's driving wheels power the thing down the track..??

It looks like it. the rtear wheels are offset to the outside so them can run along the railhead much like I've seen other track inspection vehicles.
Where would this be taken, Germany?

I can't say where this was taken. Too bad it's not a bit clearer so that we could read the logo in the side door.

Not with signs that say "Fotocopias", "Casa de Cambio" and "Machu Picchu Pharmacy".

Ah - yes, the bus-like thing in the link (as opposed to the photo, which is clearly a VW bus) is from Aguas Calientes, where one boards the train to get to Machu Picchu. Been there, done that!

All I'm seeing is the link - no pic in the post.

Oh, well that's not good. How odd -- I see the pic with no problem. No wonder about the confusion.
Here's a direct link to the pic of the VW:

    Does that work?
