My next build is going to be a bit more complex then the Space 1999: Communication Post. Its the Vulcan Sled Shuttle from the 1979. Its not an overly complicated model but it has its challenges. The frame is rather thin and very flimsy. I have this kit in styrene but I thought it would be cool to build anyway.

This happens often when the artist trys to wrap everything up and look trendy and tight, but when it goes together you will wish that they stuck to a simpler template. To compensate use cardboard frame supports or even open it in paint and copy/paste and mirror what you think is the best side over the worst side. Also floral wire inside the model can work to bend it straight. There might even be a price pulling it into a warped shape and you can relieve the pressure with just a snip.

This looks like there is quite a bit of greebling potential!
I have wound up with the same issues with other models like this. You just have to be very careful of how you assemble the different components. I start from the center and work both sides simultaneously, while I am working my way back.
I was wondering where you got this from?

I was able to straighten it out somewhat. I'll post that soon. Thanks for taking the time to look at my project

The reason the model twisted is that the tabs caused the problem. You are better off cutting the tabs off and making your own. This causes the edge to be stronger, and you can fit the parts together better. Tabs never allow the adjoining pieces to be on the same plane. This is the most common cause for twisted models. Also, some parts that are printed as large sections should be cut. The front sections that hold the frame that holds the nacelles is a perfect example. The front and rear pieces had to be perfect otherwise the model would twist. The parts were made using folded tabs, and this caused an accrued intolerance. These front and rear pieces are what forms the shape. If you start cutting off those tabs, and make your own, you will end up with more squared and plumb models. Everyone has had this happen to them, so you truly have joined the club. :)

Since you are building the model and posting pictures, yes, you can post a link to the model. We just try to stop people from posting links to models with no further info. We encourage building, not commerce.

My Colonial One test build has a warped head. I photographed it in a way that it wasn't too obvious. ;)

I will have to remember that on the next build. Thanks

Alright, just want to be sure. Don't want to brake the rules so soon into my time here.

Here's the location. Free download

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~sf-papercraft/sf/SURAK.html

If you post a link, which we encourage, and it's an improper link, we will tell you and delete the link, not your post. You can always P.M. me with a link if you are not sure, or P.M. Rhaven, in any event, people are not hassled for making mistakes here. How do you learn if you don't try?

I like when people post links as it really does help out other people who may be looking for the model. ;)

That Miranda class ship is a beauty. I'd like to see someone tackle that! :)
