Where passenger trains are concerned, would a consist that included a Vista Dome car ever be pulled by a
traditional steam locomotive? I have a suspicion that I'm mixing my eras here--does anyone know for sure?

I'm not sure, but I think it possible at the tail end of the steam era. Why not post this question on one of the prototype train forums?

CPR bought its domes in 54 and steamers lasted 'til 59. I don't think they really wanted steamers pulling their top passeneger trains by ten, though.
I think the first domes were pre-war - 30s or start of 40s. I remember photos of UP steamers pulling streamlined passenger trains
and SF as well. What pulled the Milwaukee's big domes?

Having ridden in an open car behind a couple of coal fired steamers, a vista dome would not have offered much vista judging from my clothes afterwards.
