We will repair 01 of this locos to serve for tourist purpose.
And we decided to repair this one (as my partner request 141 locos), this one made in Vietnam in 1965 all material by Vietnam (that very special because during this time we were in war with America). we pulled it out of store last January,2008 and check it statue, we try to repair it to serve for German group in March but can not because lack of money. Maybe will be finish repair at the end of this year and ready to serve soon.

I always enjoy seeing steam locos in operation on heritage railways.

I hope you find the money to restore more locos.

    Thank you for sharing, friend.:thumb:

In 20 years the Vietnamese will be trying to figure out how to get rid of the ugly slag heap they are creating next to the steel mill :cry:

I spoke too soon. The steel mill locos are definitely real working steam. And they are Chinese-built; in fact, a standard Chinese design. GJ standard gauge 0-6-0Ts, a class built in the late 50s and early 60s as the last new steam switchers in China. Sujiatun Industrial Locomotive Workshops Why didn't I recognize them before? They're even numbered in the same range as GJs built for China.

I am glad to see that something happened in Vietnam on field of steam locomotives.
I was there in 2002 for almost 3 weeks and travelled around in northern part of the country. We could have 2 of 141 locos. It was an excellent event, just the weather was very bad.

    Keep them running!

Thanks for your photo. During 2002-2005 so many steam train tours that available. From 2005 untill now, not so much programs like this, we would like to repair 141 steam loco but seem that it make us spent too much money. maybe we will repair C12 Japanese - Vietnam name: 131 because this 131 loco small and easy too keep it working.

Please let me know about 131 photos, where did you take this photo??? because I know that 131 belong to Steel Factory

Hi, the 131 was in the steel factory. That time we could not get in, however promised, so we had to wait outside on the station for this locomotive and also for the normal gauge engine. (see the picture).
It was in heavy rain - unfortunately.

I made also a video, a summary I will place probably once to the youtube.

Good luck with the renovation! I hope to see your locomotives and lines once again.

I think one of the really interesting views in the original posting is to see an oxen with cart patiently waiting to cross on one side and a water buffalo doing the same on the other side. Water buffalo as a general rule did not like Americans. I don't think they were indoctrinated, they just didn't care for the way we apparently smelled. They can be fierce when aggravated:eek:
